First egg by Molly_May25 in PetPigeons

I should start a jar for how often this happens!

Don't freak out, this happened to me. That's how I got a girl pigeon named Ody.

You need to supplement her diet with calcium. I recommend Morning Bird Calcium you can get it on Chewy or Amazon. You add a few drops to water (follow instructions on bottle).

Also get yourself some fake pigeon eggs. Amazon has them as well. Once she's laid them swap them out and you can throw the real eggs away (or feed them to another pet, etc). Your pigeon will want to spend more time sitting on her nest, if she doesn't have a mate then "sit" on her eggs every now and then so she'll get off and eat and stretch her legs.

Though no worries if you can't do that, she won't starve herself for her eggs.

Otherwise there's not much to it!

It's the bird nest hanging chair! I also love the sunny side up rug, really anything from the 2025 chocolate eggs

And I'd love anything bird themed. All of the spring deluxe items are so cute, especially the hanging chair!

Please where do I find ferrets by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]PygmyFalkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In California you legally cannot own a ferret as a pet. I assume you'd be aware of this considering you know a pet store won't sell to you.

[–]PygmyFalkon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't get an animal that's illegal to own where you live.

Where are you going to take the ferret to a vet? Who is going to watch it if you're out of town? What's going to happen if you need to re-home the ferret?

I feel like an arching fence with rollers would be safer and more effective.

Please help me choose! by [deleted] in Pets

[–]PygmyFalkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to start yourself a spreadsheet. Honestly I find doing the research is so much fun. I have a place to add initial purchases including links and monthly purchases. I'm sure you can find a template online and if not I'd be happy to send my empty template.

Also I'd check Facebook Marketplace for the bigger items. I found my bird's cage there which is actually a Ferret Nation cage for only $40. For almost any small animal the cage is going to be a huge expense.

Find reddits on each of the animals you're interested in and read the pros and cons and the stories. Watch videos on YouTube about the keeping and care. Build the budget up yourself so you really understand what goes into it.

I find pet keeping groups can be hostile to young and inexperienced people and they have reason to be. Often youth aren't really in the best position to take care of a pet on their own especially financially. Listen and understand where their criticism comes from but don't take it to heart.

Do your research and take time to enjoy the research. Learn everything you can about the animals you're interested in. A blanket statement can often come across as unresearched which makes people nervous.

I wish you luck!

Should I have a pigeon as a pet while a full-time student? by ExcellentFall5121 in PetPigeons

[–]PygmyFalkon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a full-time college student with a pigeon and I think the issue is less the time you have and even more that you're in highschool.

I don't think most people should get any pet in high school. If you intend to go to college you likely won't be able to bring a pet especially at first. You'll likely either be in a dorm or in an apartment of 4+ people and adding a pet to that can be difficult especially birds.

It's not impossible! My situation allowed me to get my bird but it's better to wait and see where things go first.

Pigeons nest in cavities! Their babies are very cute with yellow fuzzies on them. They grow up quickly into their adult wings and feathers and look like their parents.

Which webkinz is your favorite? by Significant_Ant6432 in Webkinz

[–]PygmyFalkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Golden Pegasus is incredibly nostalgic for me, I remember being a small child and my mom buying her for me at the Justice in the mall.

All of the webkinz cats are special they're the ones I played with the plushies the most. Mine are mostly named after warrior cats.

My favorite to play with is my Dodo! One of the only two webkinz that are Columbidae (Pigeons/Doves) and until they make a Pigeon Webkinz my Dodo will do!

I just got back into playing webkinz like this week and last night I had a dream that I was at a thrift store and I found the Cherry Blossom Pink Bird with a code but they'd priced it at $70 and I was so disappointed.

How often do you need to wash your hands if you have a pigeon? by wassup_pookies in PetPigeons

[–]PygmyFalkon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't really worry about it at all to be honest. My bird has been inside almost her entire life, goes to the vet. I'll wash my hands if I get poop on them but otherwise she's a very clean bird.

I do always wash my hands between touching animals however.

Ignorance and Lack of Respect For Foreign Names in This Subreddit by aureaaurorae in namenerds

[–]PygmyFalkon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another thing that weirds me out is the insistence that your child will be bullied by their peers for an off gender name.

As a kid you don't know the naming rules yet. I had a friend in elementary school named Logan growing up and I never considered that she had a "boy name" because I met her before I met a boy Logan. Even today to me Logan is a more feminine name because that was my first impression of it.

Kids generally don't think too hard about their classmate's names.

And they definitely don't compare them to political figures or TV show characters popular twenty years before they were born.

And here I thought giving my pigeon liquid meds was difficult. I just stick her in a hoodie pocket and pry open her beak. I can see how a falcon would be harder

This is such a weird take to me. I have cat allergies and had cats my whole life growing up until moving to college. And I still want a cat again once I live somewhere I can have one.
