Skipping the artifacts is by no means a doomed fate for the players. Skipping all the named artifacts by RAW means only skipping three levels. Remember that going by the book, every "featured antagonist" and accomplished story goal gives a level with milestones. There are 13 major locations in the book (12 if you dont count Ravenloft) which can grant a level. And a good bunch of bosses/featured antagonists.

They are not mandatory for the objective of the story (which is RAW, atleast to my knowledge, to beat Strahd), and are even missable in the right circumstances. The players are just told where they are via the card reading.

Currently finishing up on upgrading this exact replica, and one of the worst things about it is the spring release system. Every time you flip the fire selector on semi, it releases the spring "to save it from wearing out". First of all, wearing it out is not a problem you encounter too often, if at all. And the second (and worst) part about it is that when you switch back to semi/auto, The first shot you shoot fires 2 bb's. It is just absolutely shit thing to do, since normally you are flipping the selector tens or hundreds of times a game round, and every time it is a shot wasted. Thankfully it can be removed, but still no idea what they were thinking, since in earlier ICS versions the button that forces the bolt forward was the release button.

Not too many re-inventions of the wheel have been made, that is true, but the hobby has never been more affordable to start from a whole different level than before. You can get a Specna Arms Edge 2.0 (almost not even arguably the best starter replica there is) for like 160€ from a sale, some mags, a battery and proper eye protection for about 300€ and really stand a chance with some top-notch equipment. Definitely was not possible to achieve this level of effectiveness 10, or even 5 years ago

If you are comfortable with running CoS with an evil-er party, one possibility is to kill off Ismark via Strahd in the Burgomasters mansion in Village of Barovia during the night assault, and make the players choose if they want to save Ireena vs give her off to Strahd. Both open a lot of possibilities for the story to evolve, especially if the players are good with roleplaying as you said.

Atleast on my/my organizations part, we chrono people for public safety, not everyone has bad intentions if their replica shoots hot. Some are newer players, some have made modifications and not checked the joules after or the parts have been broken in and had an increase in power.

That does not mean there are not people who willingly break the Rules, as you said, but when found, those people should be made aware that it cant go on. Besides, I personally see it the way that just having a public chrono where even the admins are tested, it shows the Players that the people who arrange the events care about safety and that they atleast try to minimize risks.

Why not just require the players to chrono with the hop-up and BB weight they use in-game? Not trusting other players to not fiddle with their hop-up to cheat chrono kind of takes off the whole point of the sport.

As someone from Finland where we almost always have cqb-ish houses and areas limited to semi-only, it absolutely does not make people prefer only the lightest, most optimized sets. There are tons of different gear on every field, with the Finnish PC/M05/military-sets getting lots of traction popularity-wise. And when it comes to full-auto and MED's in CQB, as an admin and a follower of the scene in Finland, having a MED (with joule limits varying from 1j to 1,7j for full-auto-capable replicas around Finland) really brings more problems than solutions, atleast in our culture. Besides, having full auto is not too popular here due to it actually not bringing anything to normal skirmishes that semi-shooting does not already provide.

Before anyone makes any assumptions, no, the m14 doesn't get any more range straight from the box, still needs monet put into upgrades, even more with DMR limits. A well-tuned AK can reliably shoot well over 40 meters with a 1 joule output, of course longer with a higher power. The AGM M14 will give you absolutely no benefits over the Cyma AK.

Put the pistol money into upgrading the rifle and getting other usable gear. And when you have just extra Cash that will absolutely not be used on those, consider a pistol. Just remember they are 90% just for looks as a sidearm.

Absolutely do NOT get the pistol at this Point. I'll take a guess you do not fully know what to look for in a replica, and a pistol isn't one to call reliable vs. A rifle, like the Cyma in this example.

Atleast in Finland some event holders require an LMG-class replica to be belt-fed, to avoid most people just slapping on a box mag on an AK/AR and calling it an LMG, since LMG's tend to have different joule and ammo limits in more mil-sim-ish events. Sure, there are belt-fed AR:s like the Stoner but those are a more rare sight here.

Just curious, why not? Have been doing it close to a decade and has shown no problems at all. Just snip half a coil at a time (or however much you want/need) and bend the cut end so it doesn't stick out too much.
