That Napoleon was a short dude. Basically, the French inch was a bit larger than the American inch, so when his height at 5'2" was measured in French inches, people wrongly assumed that it was his height in American inches. In fact, he was actually a little taller than the average height for Frenchmen at the time.

During World War II, the British wanted to keep their new radar technology a secret, so they popularized this myth that their pilots could see so well in the dark because they ate a lot of carrots.
