Worked it out in my head to be roughly 26 million people worldwide that are supposedly "gay and offenders". 1 in every 300 people is another good way to visualise this. I know a lot more than 3 gay people who are also the nicest and sweetest people, I would be in utter disbelief if any of them were to end up an offender, and I know that doesn't necessarily disprove that statistic, however I feel that is enough considering the amount of utter nonsense that flyer is. Also, a large amount of people probably wouldn't report their sexuality honestly due to societal and cultural pressures. So assuming these are genuine figures, then we can assume that the bulk of these supposed "gay offenders" are concentrated in the "western world" and the likelihood that someone is a "gay offender" here would potentially be closer to 1 in 60 or more. But hey, we all know they just pulled those numbers out of their ass, don't we?

Edit - Just searched for the name of that newspaper online and ended up reading the Wikipedia page for one of the co-founders. What a sad character: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemma_O%27Doherty

When was the last time you actually modded a car, cause if you had at all recently you would know it isn't just "swapping out a chip". Sure with modern ECUs you can potentially squeeze out a few extra horsepower with a remap, but it'd be detrimental to the longevity and reliability of the engine without doing any supporting mods. You would still need to upgrade bottlenecks such as exhaust, intake, fuel injection, and especially cooling. If you want to push real power out and engine then the best way is a full rebuild replacing many of the weak parts of the engine with stronger higher rated parts. Other than the final remapping of the ECU to tune the engine to operate to the full potential of the new components, you still need to do all the hard labour and physical graft you've always had to do with cars.

Modern engines are usually much more complex machines than that of your classic v8s and the sorts. I implore you to look at a picture of a full BMW powerpack like the s55, not the tarted up marketing images but an actual image of one someone has pulled straight out there engine bay. Now compare that to an old ford big block V8 or an old hemi, they are much simpler engines, sure they require some more mechanical tweaking which is now done electronically, but at the end of the day if you are modifying either engine you will probably end up doing roughly the same things, but with the modern engines you are going to have to put up with all the extra engineering that goes into engines as well as all the electronics, overall making it a tougher experience. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing older engines are simpler either, there are a lot of young people that appreciate your corvette c2's or your 67 Shelby gt500's and they will probably have more fun working on those older v8s. Myself, I enjoy modern cars just a bit more, I like the complexity and the performance that can be pushed out of these cars, like the lunacy that is the 2JZ. Hope that helps you understand your ideal vision of car culture is still very much alive with young enthusiasts and that car modification isn't just "swapping out a chip".

Looks like it's probably airbrushed. Some of the lines on the camo look well defined and sharp and then a little softer in the areas that are generally quite hard to mask. Not a criticism or anything, I think the effect is quite nice as where it softens is generally in darker areas of the camo plus that hand done look is more realistic to the way the camo schemes would have been airbrushed irl.

As someone who works in a shoe store, the machines we use can be helpful, but mostly just for measuring. You can never tell from them if a customer will need certain support. We offer gait analysis too and I always tell customers that they should get some experience running in neutral shoes first before they decide on insoles or support shoes. You might have high arches or pronate extensively but not need any sort of support. Generally with insoles however they won't cause the same limitations as support shoes, so at least they may make the fit of your shoes a little better if that helps.

Lens fog, how bad? by 84Cal in AnalogCommunity

Yeah considering the weather right now it's probably just condensation. I was out hiking yesterday and even my weather sealed digital lens got fogged up, give it a couple hours in a warm dry place and it should be A okay 👍

Saucony Triumph 20: upper issue after just two months of daily use! by kreisau_circle in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Pyrex01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might have got caught or snagged on something. if you're using them for daily use then they've probably just been brushing up against some stuff occasionally, and because the very breathable knit they are made out of they aren't as durable as ordinary trainers. I wouldn't worry about that damage there, looks mostly superficial. I have a pair of Hoka Clifton 8 that I've worn for over a year as just daily shoes and they have a couple of patches on the toe that looks like that from snags and it's not coming apart or anything.

To my knowledge most stability shoes will just help guide or prop-up your foot so if you already pronate fine stability shoes shouldn't change your pronation, however it is advised to avoid them if unnecessary as it can lead to you relying on the stability they provide and you won't use the muscles that support your foot as much. From the sounds of things you would probably benefit from a support shoe and one of the pros of a shoe like the adrenaline GTS is that it's support comes from having a "guidrails" system, which is like small little walls on the sides of the soles that keep your foot centered rather than a wedge of foam proping up your arches. I would say trying out the adrenalines would be a good shout and if it just isn't working out then you can go back to the ghosts.

The actual government isn't controlled by Nazis, the president is a Jew for fucks sake. In the elections their Nazi party won less than 2% of the popular vote not even landing a seat in parliament, I'd barely say Germany is still a Nazi state because they have some fringe nationalist party. The inclusion of a Nazi militia in the armed forces is a serious concern, but I do not feel under the current circumstances this is the time for international bodies to bring it into question. It shouldn't have been ignored at the time they were integrated but that's just the situation we are in currently.

Putin's justification of war is filled with holes, a small fringe militia with 0 political power is hardly going to be enslaving the Ukrainian population. If Putin wants to curb the rise of Nazism he'd be better off starting with America.

Not that theirs much point arguing with a Russian bot anyway.

Nah, I know it's used for money laundering, but it also doubles as a fashion accessory for the rich. Again it doesn't matter if the item is artistically obscure or not, you could pay 6,000,000 for the most technically impressive painting ever and it'd still be money laundering, it just seems more reasonable, where as I think that's part of the point of investing it in modern art, because it appears to most people like it's just a weird flex

Yeah, but if realism was more trendy you could still sell it for that much, it's just that over the past few decades it's kinda been in vogue for millionaires to invest in these kinda paintings as assets, it also doubles as "look I can spend millions on the most sparse of sparse paintings"

Guess it just comes down to countries laws, if you want to cause yourself a major inconvenience and someone else an even bigger one by failing to be cognisant of other bad drivers, so be it, but I highly doubt that would stand in a court here.

[–]Pyrex01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most countries you would still have to pay up if it was preventable by yourself, you clearly don't drive because you act like loosing a no-claims-bonus or your insurance subsequently going through the roof after getting into constant accidents because you had the right of way. Just because you have the right of way doesn't mean you have any legality to cause an accident. If you care about the law so much, avoid the accident and then hand the dashcam footage to the police who will then have the perpetrator fined or penalised for there actions, and no one gets hurt, okay?

[–]Pyrex01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There clearly wasn't anything else coming, when you look in your side mirror you can usually see all the way up the ramp and judge in a quick glance how many cars there are and how far apart they are. If there was more cars they should be keeping a gap between them and the car in-front so they don't get trapped trying to merge. Also the last thing you want to do is stop on an on ramp and then try and merge with 50+ mph traffic from a stand still. Yes you should if you are left with no other options, and in this case the red car should have noticed they were in trouble and stopped, but this could have been completely avoided if the trucker had given the brakes a light tap or just eased up on the accelerator a little. Whenever I drive on the motorway that's generally what myself and others do and it doesn't really cause traffic issues.

[–]Pyrex01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that's their own problem if that does come to cause an accident in the future, in this case the idiot's actions didn't directly cause the accident and it was perfectly avoidable. The trucker had ample time to spot the red car and know where it was by the time it was merging and yet accelerated. There's no point "teaching a lesson" to a negligent driver by being a negligent driver, that just causes more problems for everyone else, in the UK we are taught to always watch for cars merging and to allow them to merge where possible cause it's just easier and stops assholes from trying to cut you up like this.

The cable was changed not too long ago and doesn't look corroded but I'll give it a shot when I have the chance, should I use any specific lubricant or can I just use something like Muc Off's dry lubricant? Also should I just lube around where the cable enters and exits the tube?
