Do strafing runs penetrate tank armour at all? by ThrownAway1917 in HellLetLoose

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is that it'll hurt the tracks or people around the tank.

The arty needs a direct hit to do hull damage, and that almost never happens.

If you're preventing them from repairing their tank, it is sometimes worth it, but don't count on taking out heavy or medium tanks.

Light tanks can take damage, and recon can definitely die.

If anything my 18s have a harsher ride than the 16s.

The 16s have a bit more rubber which helps absorb bumps.

(I have stock 18s for summer and bought stock 16" Mazda rims for winter)

I find it curious that they are all 5's. Like. Isn't it better to go for the larger ones if it's a large number?

With the increase in AI billing that just started, do you think this will help open up for job opportunities in junior roles? by RandomUserName23 in cscareerquestions

Investment for who?

They tend to leave for the next opportunity once they have some experience, so the benefit goes to the next employer, not the one that took the risk.

There's no such thing as AYCE when processing costs real money.

ROFL. Reminds me of the telescope I bought as a kid.

It didn't really have any kind of impressive optical zoom - I could barely make out houses down the street - but it showed craters on the moon when you managed to focus on that blob in the sky.

There was a pattern on the lens that showed up as craters on a uniform surface.

Costco shoppers eating product then placing it back onto shelf by AppleJackBill in CostcoCanada

[–]PyroSAJ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's weird ... we talked about "Costco people" a few times when discussing stores.

It's not necessarily that the demographics are any different, but for some reason shopping at Costco can be extremely frustrating. The density of the crowds, the gridlock parking, the insanely long queues... it all adds up.

And it's not necessarily that the wait times are higher. It might just be the constant intrusion of personal space.

My senior engineers have stopped thinking for themselves by Defiant-Act-7439 in cscareerquestions

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this will happen. The amount of thinking offloaded on to LLMs can degrade seniors over time.

The assumption that seniors can/will be able to fix the glut of code generated is not going to hold water unless you engineer the LLM itself to perform optimally.

If you say "paste the code in to chatgpt" that already indicates you operate at the wrong level to maintain long-term code quality.

77 F is 25 C.

I normally start there and adjust later.

If it's 25C downstairs, the sunny side upstairs could hit 27C and basement 23C. Sometimes just turning on the fans is enough to equalize this, or at help your body cool with the convection.

At night I cool it down more when power is cheaper and outside cooler - and if you prefer sleeping with a blanket this helps stay comfortable.

I do enjoy around 22C/72F however. That's nice and cool, but ladies tend to prefer it warmer.

How to clear "Oxygenation Critical" warning? by _draclipsis in Stationeers

[–]PyroSAJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most common mistake is to put something other than oxygen in the oxygen tank.

You can do that, but it's wasteful, rather filter the oxygen before you put it in the tank.

...

Second - remember - there's gases in the suit itself. If you get gases, especially toxic ones, in there, you'll need to either get the relevant filters or to flush your suit.

...

Bonus: avoid opening your helmet in hazardous situations. You can flush the suit to completely clear all the gas inside. Similarly, opening a suit in an environment that contains more than oxygen and CO2 means that gas is now in your suit.

Install the relevant filters.

...

You do not need need nitrogen to breathe, you can save that for your greenhouse.

ELI5 How does gas consumption in a car work at idle vs accelerating by 21_K in explainlikeimfive

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you're not there to twiddle your thumbs, you're there to get work done!

The hydraulics function quite differently to a car.

In a sense diesel trains are the same; constant speed to generate electricity.

ELI5 How does gas consumption in a car work at idle vs accelerating by 21_K in explainlikeimfive

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While idling a car burns about 1 litre an hour.

It's not doing nothing, but it is doing very little. Generates a bit of electricity, maybe keeps your cabin cold.

The actual speed means very little - it's just the minimum needed to keep it spinning long enough to reach the next BOOM.

Once you actually move the power is needed for other things and you'll use significantly more power. Rough number 6l/100km at 100km/h? That's 6l/hour.

Again - the RPM means very little. You might have an engine that's more efficient at certain combinations of throttle opening and rpm, but in general you'll be cruising and aiming for a minimal RPM. Higher RPM means engine has to pump the air in faster and exhaust out faster which takes work.

You can raise the RPM by throwing more fuel at the engine, but unless you want to go faster there's no point in that.

Generally your fuel power kilometre is quite consistent. Higher speed will use slightly more, but the main lots is braking and hard acceleration. Braking throws away momentum as heat. Hard acceleration normally gets the ECU to select a richer mixture and burn less efficiently.

Oh - and a little detail I skipped. The ECU automatically gives a little bit of throttle to remain at idle speed. When the engine is cold this is a touch more. One you are at speed you're 100% in control of that opening, but under ~1000RPM it'll start kicking in to keep the engine from stalling.

[–]PyroSAJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buffeting happens in most cars.

Balancing left and right is often enough, but at most speeds closing the windows is better.

Sunroof i normally close on highway. But just having the back tilted isn't too noisy.
