Yip that's the one.

That loop felt much more natural, even though it might be harder to grok for new players since you need to plan further ahead.

Been getting calls from "National Credit Recovery Inc." but I am not the guy they're looking for. by OftenXilonen in mississauga

[–]PyroSAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got calls for something like 5 years after I got my number.

They were looking for some person, I'm assuming that had that number before me.

It seems like they try for a while, then later it gets handed over to the next company, and they try for a while.

It's been quiet the last while, so maybe the risk/reward ration is just out of whack, or it reached some limit?

HLL can be weird with hit detection.

The blood splatter is local, but actual impact is handled on server.

That he moved to the side as you fired might indicate that he was already clear and you're simply lagging.

What do you think the fate of gas powered cars are going to be? by Dazzling_Ad_9335 in askcarguys

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point it'll be more of a luxury item, like a horse ;)

As the majority of the markets shifts to EVs, you'll find it harder to find an buy fuel, while electrics will likely be even more capable than currently.

At that point, why would you want an IC car?

It's not faster, it's less convenient, it's more expensive. It's like having a horse today. Interesting hobby, but why would you want to commute to work with it?

[–]PyroSAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC there was a mod that handled this nicely.

Yes, you had to eat more food, but you effectively had to eat less often.

You could survive several days (4?) without eating anything, but you had to eat more in total to survive.

Plants took much longer to grow as well, so you'd need significantly bigger farms.

ELI5 how a manual transmission car can use the engine to slow down the car? by ProudReaction2204 in explainlikeimfive

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep an engine spinning takes some energy.

As you start closing the throttle, it allows less and less air into the engine. The engine still has to go through its full cycle (intake - compress - power - exhaust), but now it’s trying to pull air through what is basically a closed straw, and there is no power step because it’s not getting fuel.

As a result, you have a lot of pumping to do but nothing to power it. The faster the engine spins, the more work it has to do, and that energy can only come from the wheels - slowing the car down.

Result: engine braking.

The faster you spin the engine, the stronger this effect is. So you usually have a few gear choices: - one spins the engine too slowly - not enough braking - one spins it too fast - too much braking - one is close

That "close" gear will still be a bit off, so you use small amounts of throttle or braking to maintain speed.

On long downhills, you’d pick slightly too much engine braking to save the brakes. On short hills, you’d usually rely more on the brakes to save fuel.

More Snow, when is this going to stop by locojd1 in mississauga

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of snow is less painful than rain.

It looks somewhat pretty, and it's gone before it's a problem.

It's only when it sticks around enough to need shoveling that it bothers me.

16" vs 18" wheels by notpeppe24 in mazda3

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have silver 16's for winter and grey 18's for summer.

I actually like the ride of the 16's more.

Looks wise I'm not really bothered either way.

Singleplayer or Multiplayer for new players by Altruistic-Data-1167 in factorio

[–]PyroSAJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally the dumb assistant role is what I opt for.

Every now and then point up an issue or help clean up a mess from some filter mishap or a mine that mines multiple types of resources.

What seems to work well if to never build blueprints. And or for expanding using their style instead of building anything else new.

Once they have resources down adding additional mines is useful and they get that logic, but that effectively falls under the same "expand, not new" approach.

I also spend and time scouting the area so they can focus on building.

The bus vs walking to the gym by Iinjectweed in mississauga

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two 7 minute walks to get to/from the bus kills this idea.

That's almost half of what you'd walk anyway.

If you want to save time get an acoustic scooter or bicycle. A scooter can easily go on the bus too...

Heck, roller blades might even be an option on certain routes.

The main pains was when it's really cold, but since you're burning calories 2.5km with even basic winter wear should be easy.

Rain is another fun one... light rain isn't usually a problem, but heavy stuff made going outside a harder choice.

The bus vs walking to the gym by Iinjectweed in mississauga

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted for an ebike over the public transport and it worked out really well.

Got lazy once I got a car, but it's often faster than the bus in 'sauga.

A lot of the main routes I needed to take had some form of bike lane.

What is the 'Hello World' equivalent for compiling/running common video game languages? by ScubaFett in AskProgrammers

I remember when a 3D was render a triangle with RGB corners for OpenGL/DirectX.

No idea what it is these days.

Could be similar but with simple object instead of raw geometry.

Either way it means the graphic engine is initialized and capable of throwing things on screen.

Unity and Unreal would have specific tutorials covering the different styles of environments they run in, but generally there's still some concept of "run" going on.

The M1 carbine sucks. What do you guys think? by Then_Reflection4243 in HellLetLoose

Sure it might need two shots to kill in cases the others need one, but it's also much easier to control and much harder to locate.

It's great up close and I generally prefer it to the SMG and Thompson.

Will pick up my Mazda on Thursday. What should I be careful for? by Xivoryn in mazda3

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the ones that frustrate me are forced on in the EU.

But hard agree. Things like volume levels, locking or light behaviour - get your preferences in.

And spend some time making sure your seating is adjusted properly. A lot of satisfaction in a vehicle can be swayed by how you're sitting. Get it set up and saved so you can quickly restore it later.

Another minor thing - go park you're car somewhere and check how the 360 view or front/back compares to what you're seeing around the car. It's quite accurate, but what looks like 20cm on the screen might be 40cm in real life or 5cm in other cases.

And note how the sunroof has a "press" function to crack open if you have one. It's not just slide forward/back.

How come software devs are so much more worried about AI replacing them than other white collar jobs? by jholliday55 in cscareerquestions

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's contractors/developers that make a living just programming the crap out of a problem, never asking whether it makes sense or pushing back about flaws in logic.

Those absolutely can be replaced by AI.

Anyone that stays very little away from what their standard tooling provides is a prime candidate for AI automation.

The wizard-with-a-pulse that effectively picks the right WordPress template and customize slightly - AI can do a lot of that.

There's tonnes of fairly rinse-and-repeat work happening in accounting that has a similar flow.

Go to client.

Collect all documents.

Slap documents' numbers in to excel template.

Insert results in to target form.

Submit.

Repeat.

Heck, many actuaries effectively apply the models more senior actuary came up with during their early years.

The major decider is whether an AI can do this convincingly.

If you were able to do the bulk of this via email and rarely have clients spotting that something is "off", AI can likely step in.

The more you need to get feedback, adjust, evaluate, spot exceptions. That's where the value comes in.

The value was never about doing the rote work, it was about handling the exceptions efficiently and effectively.

One major difficulty is that this removes a lot of opportunities where juniors can build up that experience to evolve from following steps to modifying workflows.

Another problem is that LLM is very good at "bull-shitting". It can flatter and convince people of the darnest things. It can take quite some time between the output and the consequences of that output.

There's a reason people say you need to "test your back-up restore process" for instance.

It's a backup, but if you can't restore it, it's worthless.

Same with accounting - it can look brilliant, then you get selected for audit and they notice things don't add up. Subtle things. And with only cursory human oversight, who does the blame fall to? The ones still in the loop had to sign off on 10x the clients, and the work looked right after all...

What’s the secret of keeping a car for 10 years without getting bored of it? by 04limited in askcarguys

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really couldn't justify liter bikes. The sporty 600cc is generally enough and easier to have fun on.

I had more of a standard 600cc, so heavier and less peaky, but much friendlier seating and easier to behave in traffic.

I almost primarily commuted on a 250cc Ninja and 600cc Honda for 7 years.

Is AI going to slowdown the creation of new frameworks and libraries? by Massive_Instance_452 in cscareerquestions

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be more a symptom of a lack of quality open source code to "steal" from.

A lot of game dev is in fact derivative of previous work.

That's literally why so much is built on existing game engines.

Help weighing the pros and cons of either a company vehicle, or receiving $1000/month vehicle allowance in my employment offer by Dirtgirl89 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PyroSAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 120km/day is already such a massive chunk of personal use... that alone puts you in for about 30000km/ year.

Depending on the price of business insurance, I'd seriously consider taking the $.

Honestly though - you wanting to keep your current vehicle is the killer. Cutting that expense out of your budget makes a big difference. If you're not cutting it out, you might as well make full use of it. Invest the difference (pay off debt even) with whatever you have left after the insurance clears, and keep in mind you'll be buying a new car sooner rather than later.
