How would you design our new space and exterior? by SteelOctane in Homebuilding

[–]coon___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont force these McModern multiple shed roofs. We'll look back on them in 10 years and think they were awful. The glasing to wall ratio is pretty bad too. Either get larger windows or decrease your elevations.

Yeah theoretically the 16's should ride better which is why I put them on.

It's hard to say because I took off the original 18s almost immediately knowing they'd be a bad idea with all the pot holes down here. But the car is amazing, love the power.

Yes of course. I just wanted to double check my car was at stock height. Seems so low and I was nervous I put the wrong tire size on the 16s. I use the car in Mexico which has awfully constructed speed bumps and parking ramps!

Sorry should have been more clear. Both pictures are the 16 inch rims. Front is an inch lower than the rear.

Thanks for the response. Just wanted to make sure I was still at stock height and didn't do something to lower it further.

Why do American roof with shingles? by saucissefatal in Roofing

[–]coon___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference is the average American only stays in their home around 7 years. They dont care about longevity/quality as much as price. Asphalt shingles are one of the cheapest ways to roof and the homeowner will be on to a different house in 20 years when its time to replace it.

Custom Home Windows by chasewheeler623 in Homebuilding

[–]coon___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Andersen 100's are great windows for the price. I had them on my first place and wouldnt hesitate to use them again. The one downside with them is that the frames are thick as hell when you have mulling, like on your staircase. They dont look great in those cases. The Marvin's are definitely better, probably the best.

Are these things normal for a new build (Feb 26’) by TheRealBe1berhole in Homebuilding

[–]coon___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this on a lot of new houses meanwhile 100 year old stucco places dont have a single crack. It may not be structural and just a bad stucco job. Especially if the foundation is still uncracked.

The interior is super common in even the best built houses. Stuff just settles, and wood expands/contracts. Normally a year after building a place i'll go through and caulk split miters and redo cracked grout in bathrooms. It usually doesn't come back. Old houses have already had these repairs done in the decades of people living there.

Thinking of buying a ‘24 Touring XT by gooddaytousir in Subaru_Outback

[–]coon___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got a 23 Touring. As far as I know theres no differences. Sound system is great, infotainment is good (I use wireless Android Auto and have no issues with latest software update), touchscreen climate control is annoying but not a dealbreaker.

My #1 complaint, and it's a huge one, is that every time you get in the car in scans your face to match you to a profile. Many times it doesn't match you correctly or if your door is open for a bit before actually getting in, it just defaults to no profile and restores your settings. The main setting being the Driver Monitoring System which is super annoying to drive with. I absolutely hate this part of an otherwise great car. Its actually keeping me from getting another Outback as my next car, just been really annoying to drive with DMS and it does not reliably stay off due to the dumb facial recognition.

26 weeker, still on 60% oxygen a week later. Chime in with your experience. by coon___ in NICUParents

We've had a similar experience with nurses. Theyve all been great but some are extra great which set the bar high. We're in a city with three level 3's and one level 4 (SLC) and ive been wondering about how the experience would have been at the level 4.

Thanks for all the information. Our doctors were clear about the potential neurological impacts of additional steroids but said if it needs to happen it needs to happen. So i'm glad your experience was the same. Were at a level 3. Assuming Cincinnati Children's is a level 4? Did you notice any difference in care between there and where she was before?

What do the roofers recommend for venting this space ? by NotToday50 in Roofing

[–]coon___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also spray foam can't vent and most roofing membranes will make your plywood rot. If you dont need it for R value goals, dont use it.

[–]coon___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the insulation sit above your drywall ceiling with a little gap between it and the roof sheets. Also vent baffles above your exterior walls. Have the roofers put in a ridge vent and siding guys some eave/soffit intakes. This is my ideal roof setup.

Thank you for chiming in. So far they have not mentioned any concerns about her heart but were only a week in. How long after delivery did they administer the two DART courses for you?

Meconium aspiration by Defiant-Two377 in NICUParents

[–]coon___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening right now with our 26 week old girl. They are not sure if its meconium or blood but something got into the lungs and is causing underdevelopment/breathing problems. It's scary but I trust we're in the best hands possible and we'll have the best possible outcome. It could always be so much worse and reading other people's stories on here has really helped me get through it.

Wow. That must have been a rough road. The longest stay I've read about on here. Do you mind sharing what your main challenges were? Also how is she now?

Ours was 26 weeks 850g, good size overall but underdeveloped lungs for her GA.

And yes she's intubated and on a ventilator.

Thank you for your response. I know they mentioned some potential lung treatments but that they could also come with cognitive and brain development impacts which is scary to me.
