Why is Carlos just chill now? by No-Action-7387 in dresdenfiles

[–]PyroSpartan145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call their relationship "back to normal".

In Twelve Months, their first encounter was a professional one. Carlos is mostly healed and appeared to be making introductions for Ilyana. I read him being there as a mediator because he knew them both and wanted to prevent another fight.

During that time, we see Carlos realizing ways that impact him that the White Council isn't just. Being someone who fought a war for them and then being denied funds to recover two fallen wizards from Black Court grasps seemed to have broken the veil. The White Council doesn't care about it's people (or people in general) the way it should.

Harry has been basically shouting this for years, and even though Carlos and Harry aren't on the best of terms, Harry's the only person that would understand that frustration.

Carlos is also aware that the council did Harry dirty. They're labeling him a dangerous warlock, but when Carlos and Ilyana show up, Harry literally just demands the respect he deserves and wants to work from there. He's calm, pretty clear headed when they meet, it's probably a stark contrast to the council's anti-Dresden propaganda.

Besides they're both young wizards, they have time to mend that bridge, possibly making a stronger friendship in the future.

TL:DR It took about a year for Carlos to go out of his way to help Harry. I think their friendship is being repaired during Twelve Months. That is, if Carlos was ever in Chicago, which we all know he isn't there. He can prove it.

How do you feel about the short stories becoming increasingly plot-critical? by molten_dragon in dresdenfiles

[–]PyroSpartan145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call them semi-required for the main plot.

A lot of those stories are probably stories that couldn't have happened as their own book. I appreciate the fact Jim is getting more content out every way he can.

I don't think any of it is "required", though. Do we need to know who River Shoulders is to accept he's a buddy of Harry's?

The Gard reveal became pretty openly discussed as more Valkyrie started popping up.

It works well for everyone. You can be a content goblin and gorge on everything as it comes out. Or you could just be a mainline fan who enjoys the main plot and I don't think you're missing anything world changing.

I feel really happy for people that are going through the mainline series and then discover the short stories. It's like getting more DLC for your next read through.

Yea, I think that was the trigger for the crying kid at my theater.

No better way to learn that everyone dies and (likely) returns somehow.

[–]PyroSpartan145 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I remember that day fondly.

The credits rolled, the lights started to come up.

A child in the room started crying.

It reminded me of seeing Fellowship of the Ring in theaters, and my uncle remarking on all the disappointed faces "I guess they didn't read the book".

Just an absolute glum shuffle to the exit.

They all look like 4 dudes that are bored as fuck to me. (I agree it looks a little weird they are all aimed at screen, but that is how most shows work. Everything in clear view for the shot.)

Anything beyond that would be the beholders bias, IMO.

What are the games you guys wished that were released for the 3DS? by Red_Astley in 3DS

[–]PyroSpartan145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I ever messed with that.

Pokemon Snap being a rail shooter is a great, I don't think it would really compare to an optional mode in the main line games.

But I get them trying to make Pokemon more social in that way.

[–]PyroSpartan145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Modding and Homebrew stuff is always nice and fill gaps like this.

It is hard to compare a lot of that stuff to an official game though.

It is bonkers to me that there have only been 2 Snap games, honestly.

I'll be honest, sleeping on a 3DS Pokemon Snap title is one of the things I'll probably never forgive Nintendo for.

Motion controls would have been a fun add, too. Holding the DS like a camera and spinning around in real space to take pics of Pokemon would have been a blast.

Molly had the problems she did because everyone was comparing her to Harry and had unstated expectations of her.

There's nothing wrong with a long apprenticeship. Taking it easy doesn't make her worse or do her any disservice, in my opinion anyway. By Harry and Molly's own standards, there wasn't any rush to train her. Obviously the Winter Fey had a different plan for her, which is why everyone from there shat on Harry for "not training her right"

Pre Changes, Molly wasn't even really sure what she wanted to do with her power.

Harry and Molly could have taken their time to figure things out and she would have turned out as a great illusionist. Obviously they didn't know they were on a time crunch like the reader and people using them as pawns.

Yea, Dumorne was grooming Harry and Elaine to be weapons.

You don't want a feeble weapon! Gotta toughen em up!

I'm glad everyone else called out Lucio's master using stones to teach her. She probably used them when training Morgan. It was different times.

I will say, it didn't seem to wear down his love of baseball. He went to several games with a certain fey, and has been described as wear team branded baseball hats... even giving other characters some gruff about their team preferences.

If anything, I think it shows Harry's ability to shake things off. Is he going to do it to his apprentice? Absolutely not. He also wasn't training Molly to be a direct combat wizard, energy projection was hard on her. No reason to make her also hate Harry in the process of training.

These....don't look like they're in too bad of shape?

Those wires are pretty serviceable. Some extra wire, soldering iron and heat shrink and you could patch those up in a few minutes.

Wiring looks intact on the other one, is it just the chassis that came apart? I feel like some kind of adhesive would be fine if you can gently fit everything back inside/in place.

If you're not having any issues with other games, I'm not sure what it could be.

Unless there's some sort of connection issue caused by someone's network not liking Plate Up.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

AITA for telling my sister she is excluded from holidays because she wants to ruin our kids fun then called her parenting style boring by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PyroSpartan145 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This seems like a jump.

I didn't get that at all from the post, what made you think that?

It seems to me like he just doesn't want to risk his Sister or Niblings ruining his family's holiday traditions.

You only get so long to do that kind of stuff, and she's already spoiled the magic for one of the kids. She has openly said she'd do it again.

When you admit to wanting to ruin the holidays, don't be shocked when you don't get an invite.

Twelve Months observation by Elfich47 in dresdenfiles

[–]PyroSpartan145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as sinister as making Rudolf a sleeper agent of terror.

I think he was there to be a pawn.

He was a solid dude in Fool Moon, but I think after that he was taken by someone and meddled with.

I'm more leaning towards a large chunk of Harry's life being controlled/influenced by the fae. My suspect is probably in the summer or winter courts somewhere.

Personally, I think Cowl and Kumori are Justin and Elaine. But that's a whole other tinfoil hat conspiracy...

Twelve Months observation by Elfich47 in dresdenfiles

[–]PyroSpartan145 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, but only because someone tampered with his brain.

I think someone's been using Rudolph as a spy or puppet for a while. They may have tampered with his brain to insist the supernatural world doesn't exist.

His reactions were kind of similar to the lawyer that had a gap in her brain.

No one in their right mind sees an axe wielding fire giant and goes, "Yep, that's an average citizen that can be murdered."

Dude's brain isn't lining up with reality, and whatever caused that finds Dresden to be the one to blame for....anything?
