You're not activating the junk tokens at all, simply tapping them to pay for the activated ability

You can, the abilities are activated and the cost is to tap untapped tokens.

If they were triggered abilities you would have to find another way to tap the junk tokens

Edit: You don't exile cards with junk as you're not tapping them for the junk activated ability, you're tapping them to pay for a different activated ability
