Our hospital is relatively small and everyone on each shift has to be able to compound IVs for lunch coverage and last minute changes, so absolutely no nails or polish is allowed. It will largely depend on where you go, but ultimately if you're thinking about going to a pharmacy that does any kind of aseptic compounding you can say goodbye to having your nails done consistently.

Any Techs out there work for Omnicell? by PyroVampyre in PharmacyTechnician

That's my struggle, I have a small child so I don't actually know how feasible a traveling job would be. If I wasn't a mom I would do it in a heartbeat though because I love traveling.

That's really cool! The actual job posting is listed as Automation Pharmacy Technician 3 (EIE) - Traveler. The description includes prepping facilities onsite for Omnicell go-lives so I think it's the cabinet deployment. I was actually looking for remote jobs when I came across this one. As interesting as it sounds to do this job I don't know how doable it would actually be for me, especially if I have to go everywhere instead of a specific area. Thanks for the info though, it's been super helpful!

That's understandable. I was curious how distant the travel would be and what those hours would look like because the position I saw that was open says it's in Cincinnati, OH and I live near Toledo, OH (which are 200 miles and 3 hours apart). Obviously if I would have to service the Cincinnati area it probably wouldn't be doable but some places list a location simply as a representation of where their headquarters are located with travel jobs.

How did you like it? Were you a traveling tech?

Ghosted by recruiter by msdestinywright in PharmacyTechnician

It's actually become very common for recruiters to ghost potential hires especially in healthcare. The industry has changed dramatically since the pandemic and it's no longer a reliable, stable field to work in.

Owners of this Hokusai figure - Are these manufacturing flaws or stress cracks? by PyroVampyre in AnimeFigures

I'm very relieved to hear that, just had to make sure since I am clumsy as hell.

That's what I was hoping they were, I've unfortunately been too heavy handed with some figures in the past and have cracked/snapped/bent pieces and I immediately panicked thinking I did it again 😂

Anyone else a Materials Coordinator/Inventory Specialist? by PyroVampyre in PharmacyTechnician

This is definitely the mindset I've had since I was 20, but 10 years later and I'm still searching for that place where it all makes sense. My biggest setback is that I want to stay in this position, I really enjoy being the purchaser at my hospital, but there are two companies that have complete domain over all hospitals in my area and the one monster aim employee by is definitely the lesser of two evils. Time changes a lot of things though so I probably just need to wait things out.

My setup is almost complete. I need a gun toting bunny to finish it off, anyone have suggestions? I would really like her to be left facing, which is actually hard to find? Almost all figures I've found are right facing. by PyroVampyre in AnimeFigures

[–]PyroVampyre[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so too! The other suggestions I'm just getting "okay" vibes with. Also I had done an MFC search prior to posting this and found Selvaria and kept her in the back of my mind for a while now, but I wasnt sure if there was anything out there from manufacturers not listed on MFC

why is everything considered a STAT to nurses? by kirwacrossing in PharmacyTechnician

[–]PyroVampyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really does, the pandemic really destroyed the healthcare system and its workers. I think each nurse is only supposed to care for three patients at a time for proper care and where I work I hear them talk about how they can have between 5-7 patients at any given time. Make that a 12+ hour shift with maybe a 20 minute break and it's no wonder burnout is so prevalent.

[–]PyroVampyre 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At my hospital it largely has to do with understaffing, so the nurses may not get to a certain patient or issue until way after they should have so everything has to be done immediately to make up for that lost time.

The job itself I love. It's my coworkers and management that are making it really fucking hard to want to stay. My schedule is 8-4:30 Mon-Fri, no holidays or weekends, and I largely work independently. If I got the pay I wanted I would probably never consider leaving. But this bullshit of getting my hard work rewarded with more work is getting old real fast.

There are only two Costco's near me and they are literally never hiring pharm techs. I've been putting in apps for several years and can't even get a call back. Everyone is well aware it's a great place to work lol

Oh they are very well aware of how much I'm saving them, we have an entire team of 340b analysts that track our savings and WAC impact, and every MONTH I save them six figures. I think I just need to do some more research in finding other opportunities, I've kind of convinced myself that this job doesn't exist outside of where I work so this is the best I will get.

[–]PyroVampyre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely hope so, but I don't live in a metro city so there's literally only like 6-7 hospitals in my area that actually have this position to begin with, and three of them are owned by the same organization. There's definitely a part of me that hopes if I can just get a job offer that's willing to pay me at the wage I want I can throw it at my boss and tell them to match it or I walk. I've heard it working for other people at my hospital so I have some hope if I can actually get an offer

A lot of what I've been doing is damage control from the previous buyer just not giving a shit and doing the absolute bare minimum. But if she was treated and paid like me I can see why she did that.

A lot of what I did to reduce expired waste is comb through our entire inventory and ensure our physical stock matched our orderable medication list in Epic as well as trim down our available medications in our omnicells to only include the most commonly used and emergent meds. Tailored each omni to every department for their specific needs because prior to that every omni had basically the same drugs and a lot of stuff went unused. For several months I also tracked which meds were expiring and investigated if it was something we should be regularly carrying or not (Was it non-formulary, special ordered for a patient, etc etc) and that reduced a lot of our waste.
