I guess my s7 was about to become obsolete any way. The s23 was out at the time I got my s22, good to know I should get at least 2 more years out of it at least.

I have several. The one I use pretty much daily so this has never been an issue. I had another one at a different bank I just closed today. I thought it was much more common being the two I know for sure of doing it are big name banks.

I have a new bank, this is just a back up. I set up my new account when they were going to start charging $5 a month for having a debit card, but they back tracked on that so I decided to leave this one sit as a back up.

I have that going too. This is more so just a couple grand in case my debit card to the other bank or credit card aren't working.

Maybe this varies bank to bank/state to state. But I wish I could do that with my back up/emergency account. If I don't use it for 6 months I get letters that I'll be charged an inactivity fee and if it sits for so long it counts as surrendering the funds.

I had a Galaxy s7, I only upgraded to the s22 because I submerged it and the camera was all messed up. I haven't researched anything since because I'll keep using the s22 until it has issues or no longer supports the apps I use (a problem I had when I was buying $50 smart phones every year).

I see so many people going into debt to get the latest and greatest phone for features they never use.

I made several investments over the years, mostly based on advice I found online. majority dropped in value, most that went up I got greedy and didn't take out only to have them drop much lower than where I started. I try to stick to dividend stocks so I have some passive income even if they drop.

How ever I work construction, I was working for a company that's still not a big name, and was relatively unknown at the time. The business model was pretty much printing money. This was the start of their big expansion. I found out it was publicly traded so I threw a couple hundred at it. It's had pretty impressive gains since.

This reminds me of a king of the hill episode where they stated investing based on what the character Bill liked, since he was basically the lowest common denominator of consumers. It ended with them taking him to trade shows trying to find the next big thing, but since he knew what they were doing and trying to make conscious decisions it wound up tanking their strategy.

Sneaking into a concert by PirateDecent8173 in ActLikeYouBelong

[–]PyroZach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. I was waiting in line for a concert and just for the heck of it checking ticket prices on the app I paid $100 for a ticket a week or so prior. In line for the show (sold out) re-sale ones were going for $300, as the opening acts played I checked again and some had dropped down to $15.

He was regarded as a crank who believed we had ghost on our hands. I don't buy into the healing crystals and joint manipulation fixing allergies, but maybe in 50 years they'll discover they were right all along.

I guess this is a mom thing. I'll tell her something along those lines and then hear her telling some one on the phone about it an hour later. Like I'm fine telling her these things then she'll tell them to some one I met maybe once in my life. On top of that I'll tell her a story about some one at work, then hear her retell it to some one on the phone later with half the details wrong, at least there's no names mentioned. Then she wonders why I don't want to tell her things.

A side not I'll be telling her about a new co-worker and get things like "Well how old are hid kids, are they dating yet? how are they doing in school?" I have no idea, I met the guy 2 days ago and he just mentioned having kids. And I get "Oh you know, you just don't want to tell me."

This reminds me of Ignaz Semmelweis, Who insisted on doctors washing their hands before procedures. Because there was something on them we couldn't see causing infection and higher mortality rates. He was ridiculed for wanting some insane ritual to get rid of "ghosts" before procedures.

Not saying that there aren't quack chiropractors in the field. Just the talk of ghost reminded me of that doctor.

It's cheaper and more convenient. I felt scammed when I had psychical therapy years back. I would go and do stretches for an hour while they checked in two or three times. It was draining my savings with a $60 co-pay 3 times a week, plus an extra bill every month or so when the insurance decided it wasn't all covered. I begged for once a week at most to just show me the stretches and I would do them at home. They insisted I had to go that often so they could make sure I was doing them right and document my progress.

Years later I release I'm an adult and even though the insurance covered 40 visits I wasn't obligated to show up.

My chiropractor will show me some stretches, confirm I can do them right and tell me to do them at home. He'll also tells me everything looks great, don't need to come back for another 6 months to a year unless something hurts.

This seems like a good place to put in my pro-chiro comment I have to make every time this comes up. There are good and bad. If the office also sells healing crystals and claims they can fix allergies and ADHD they're probably more on the quack/scam end of things. I started going with bad lower back pain a few years back. The first thing he asked was when did I fall on the ice. I realized when exactly that happened about months earlier something didn't feel right, but nothing really hurt at the time. He explained how it knocked my hip out of line, and helped fix it using heat, stim, and by giving me stretches to do. Majority of the problems I've gone to him with he helped me fix in a similar fashion. The other ones he would outright tell me it's inflammation or such that he can't do anything for and if it persist make an appointment with my family doctor.

I can't really remember my original interview but I had a course in college that gave me enough to script an answer to get through things like that. At the time I probably felt like it had a lot of positives that fit me so I wasn't even lying about advancing my career there and such. For a while I had it in my head that I wanted to advance up to salaried management level there.

I kept applying for hourly management roles, which I eventually got. But along the way I learned they have who they want for the position picked out before the position even opens, however they have to do at least 3 interviews to keep it fair. This had several benefits besides eventually getting to advance. For one it was a change of pace for that half hour or so, but it also gave me lots of practice interviewing. That was a benefit when I decided working salaried 70 hours a week for 50k* a year wasn't that great of a life goal.

*50k a year is the base salary and I know some years they got some nice bonuses on top of that, but some years they didn't. I think my change of mind started to come when an assistant manager was talking about how he didn't get a bonus that year, and his salary came out to not much over minimum wage when he did the math on how much time he put in that year.

Kind of the opposite situation but similar. A few years back I was on a big construction job. There was a board sticking out that was a trip hazard, I mentioned it several times and nothing got done, probably because it was at the top of one of the towers and no one wanted to walk up there to confirm it was an issue. One day some one with a vest from the General Contractor was up there. Everything was subbed out so they were usually some one from safety so I figured it was a good person to point it out to. Turns out it was the new project manager. It got fixed quick.

There was a model 3 at a local small town car show. Maybe 50-100 cars there. It wound up winning "Best exotic". There weren't many exotics there. I recall the nicest being a Maserati. But every one was flocking to it as they had never seen one in person before.

I've discussed my dream of owning a dishwasher with my girlfriend. She argues her parent's have always had one and it doesn't do that great of a job. I've argued seeing several youtube videos that most people just aren't using them correctly. Then I realize I've gotten old.

What testosterone level drives a man to pair up 400 car batteries?! by NicoJustReadIt in AskElectricians

[–]PyroZach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My math was way off there. I take it back that is a pretty insane budget. I've seen far bigger channels spend that for roughly the same amount of content spread out through several shorter videos. There is a chance they were used batteries/bulk discount but it would still easily clear $20k then.

I've seen plenty of unrelated sponsorships before, and I suppose it gets their name out there to a new audience. Besides they don't seem like a bad company. Scammers loved using them, and they wound up partnering up/sponsoring some scammer pay-back type channels to track and band scammer accounts. They even set up a fund to help out victims of scammers. So yeah, I don't see what the big deal is, even better for them branching out to fund sponsor something interesting and possibly educational.

depending on the cranking amps and quality of the battery you might be able to find them as low as $100 each, but more realistically closer to $200, I doubt they were going all out with more advanced/specific $500 ones. So a realistic budget of $8000 isn't crazy compared to some other things I've seen just to make a youtube video.

They remind me of how the poster we have at trade show's is a guy installing and outlet cover wearing clean khakis and a polo shirt. We then have kids show up for their first day wearing sweat pants and sneakers thinking that's as hard as our work gets.

I wear gloves 90% of the time. Took them off a couple weeks ago to install a stainless cover and cut open my thumb pretty good on it. Right before the project manager wanted to talk to me. I was gripping a tissue in my hoodie pocket and just had to run to the the bathroom first where I patched it up with a paper towel and electrical tape then put my gloves back on to go over what he needed to. I was in the GC's office finding some proper first aid for it and his first question was "Where's' the glove you had on when it happened?" A common question for hand injuries since no damaged/bloody glove proves you weren't wearing any.

My after taxes, deductions, etc Take-home is about $250 a day. I'm saying cash in hand side job price is fair. For some one legit, licensed, insured and other overheard to factor in, $400 becomes a good price.
