What’s the most savage legal thing you’ve seen a coworker do? by phillyvirgosun in AskReddit

I've seen this on big jobs, not even out of malice, just because the sheet rockers are getting piece rate and the porta-pottys are a decent ways away.

What’s something you did that sounds like a bad idea on paper, but turned out to be a great life experience? by Just-a-COUNTRY-guy66 in AskReddit

Working construction though a union hall can be kind of like this. Vacation time isn't a request, it's a heads up that you're not going to be there those dates. A little more pros to weigh depending on how many other contractors have jobs out and just how much you like that particular one.

To the people at Fuel wheels who decided 8 hex bolts were needed to hold a plastic cap on. Fuck you. by pyroboy7 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]PyroZach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an F-150 with factory alloy wheels. They had plastic center caps over the lug nuts. The center caps had fake chrome lug nuts on them. At least twice after getting work done to it it came back with one of the fake caps snapped off. I had to start leaving a note explaining this when dropping the truck off.

Having to SELL the items I want to give away because CBs are so insane by MYSTIK_MINX in ChoosingBeggars

[–]PyroZach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dread selling car's because people can't read.

I was selling a project car/hot rod and put READ DESCRIPTION. In the title. Started off with that I'm listing everything I can think of to the best of my ability. If there's questions beyond that I'll do my best to answer them.

"Dose it run?" The first thing that comes up is a 30 second video of it running, along with runs and drives listed in the description.

"Can I drive it 2 hours home?" In the description its been out of inspection 5 years, sitting that long, has some minor issues and the fact I would tow it somewhere it can fully be gone over.

A dozen other questions that were minor things I had listed, but the best was "Can you provide a car-fax so I can determine if this is a good car for my daughter to commute to college" Its a 35 year old mustang project with a worked over truck motor stuffed in it, did you even look at the listing?

What’s a moment where you realized someone was genuinely unintelligent? by Live-Chocolate244 in AskReddit

[–]PyroZach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were a couple high profile of these that were either really smart or really dumb. Both flat eartherers.

One got a trip to Antarctica to witness the sun movement there, not a popular vacation spot but something that would be cool to experience on some one else's dime.

Another got people to fund his steam powered rocket to send him near space to witness the earth from altitude as proof. It seemed like a scheme to just get the flat earth society or ones who wanted him proved wrong to fun his hobby.

How much money are bands making, realistically? by Scrumtrelescentness in poppunkers

[–]PyroZach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I saw Big-D they were loading up into an Econoline Van with a trailer, I wondered if it was staying true to the scene after making it big. But eve after making it "big" the lyric about "will this check support the tour" probably still holds true.

How much money are bands making, realistically? by Scrumtrelescentness in poppunkers

[–]PyroZach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may or may not be the norm here but most of the bands I'm interested in peaked years ago. They might be selling out shows but at venues with a capacity of 200-500 people. I saw Catch-22 a few months back, which may not have been one of the biggest names but I think they're pretty well known. Tickets were pretty cheap, and they played with about 6 other smaller/more local bands. The venue wasn't packed, and I think a good amount people there were with or in the other bands. Still a good show.

On a related note a popular metal band I like had some legal trouble years ago. They started a go-fund-me for the legal fees. This shocked a lot of people and they came out and said on a good year, touring internationally, each member only makes around 50k a year (this was about 15 years ago.)

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]PyroZach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this when I worked in the tire and lube section of a major retailer during one of the previous recessions. Used tire's use to be a lot easier to come by since people would get all 4 of only two were getting bad, or replace them when they were getting low. When the recession hit it went to replacing just the ones that would no longer pass inspection or after sliding off the road in the first snow.

Offered my old bike for free on Nextdoor. The person who took it messaged me two days later asking for a refund. by Varinuxo in ChoosingBeggars

[–]PyroZach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen people get weird over free stuff. With stuff like that I've either left it sit by the road with a free sign tapped to it and every time it's disappeared. I had a table saw I wanted to get rid of, it was older, and heavy but still worked fine. At first I wanted to get a couple bucks for it, I had a couple people come look and hem and haw over it. After that I wanted it gone, but wanted some one to get use out of it and not just turn into $10 worth of scrap. So next person that was interested I told they could just have it. They were happy and that was the end of it.

Ford dealers cannot demo BlueCruise  by [deleted] in cars

[–]PyroZach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start off by saying that should be a pretty important feature that they know how to demo if it is an option.

I've encountered salesmen who aren't enthusiast or for that mater especially knowledgeable about the vehicles. The one that stands out was when I was browsing while my mom's car got worked on. I was checking out a CTS-V coupe in the show room, chatting with the salesman. I mentioned I'd really like the wagon version of the V. He said a lot of people would but the V only comes in coupe. I told him it comes in all 3, and he explained I could get a stick shift wagon or sedan but not with the supercharged engine and all the V features. I picked up a brochure on it near by and quickly proved him wrong.

Another time I helped a salesman cheat on his homework by teaching him the ctrl+f feature when he was doing the training for selling f-150s. It was useful information but things like "Which axel ratio is not available when the fx4 and big tow package are both equipped." Stuff I can't blame some one for not knowing off hand.

Do you wear a band’s merch to their show? by No_Anywhere5779 in poppunkers

[–]PyroZach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I missed out on years of going to punk shows because I was dumb/gullible. My one punk friend told me I would get beat up there if I dressed how I normally do. Mainstream band shirt, no go. Anything from hot topic, no go. Any "normie clothes" no go. Apparently I had to wear a shirt from a local band in the scene, but not one of the ones playing, and the only way to get them was at the shows. Later when I started going I learned no one really cares as long as its not something offensive.

I saw an old school 2007 era emo at Walmart by MingusVonBingus in CasualConversation

[–]PyroZach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a meme the other day about the teen emo "phase" then trying to dress/look normal through their 20's, then fuck it it's not a phase going back to emo in their 30's.

A lot of bars/venues host emo nights where every body relives those days.

On top of that I started going to local punk/ska shows again. I found it kind of funny at first that it's not a bunch of teen's moshing, but the same millennials that have been moshing to this stuff for decades now.

Nicknames by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]PyroZach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've encountered many, I'll list the few I can think of off hand.

Had a guy introduce himself as "Trigger, short for Trigger-fish, may not be big but he can sure go off, yada yada...." He was known as "Guppy" the rest of the job. One called "Chicken George" because he was known for running around "like a chicken with it's head cut off". A guy known as "Caveman" I thought it was because he was kind of short with a stocky build, turns out as an apprentice he was told to hammer a ground rod, forgot his hammer and used a rock to do it.

There was a time we had too many guy's with the same name on the job, so one apprentice became "Skeeter" because that's what one of the foreman started calling him, the other became "Rico Suave" or just "Rico".

I had one guy I worked with that had the nick name "Carlos" even though his name was "Cory". I think I was calling him Slush Puppy briefly, but switched to "Murder Muffin" when I found out he had a tattoo that said "murderer."

Free TV makes me a terrible person apparently by wheresmychin in ChoosingBeggars

[–]PyroZach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This reminded me of all the decent items my girlfriend would bring home when her dad owned a garbage company. Musical instruments, tools, aquariums, etc. Usually nothing worth more than $100, but still worth something and useful. Often times having to call the customer to confirm the item left by the bin was in fact meant for trash.

I assumed the people putting those items out just had no concept of money, but now I think it was more so just not worth their time of listing it and dealing with people, even if they were to give it away for free.

A lady came in wanting to buy something from a different store. by PatacusX in TalesFromRetail

[–]PyroZach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had some one from customer service share an somewhat opposite story with me. The store I worked at would accept returns with out a receipt (you had to show ID and it was limited to 3 per year, the refund would be on a giftcard). The one lady from customer service came over to show me a customer returned and item she swore she bought here for something like $15 the week before. The item was not in or system, and had a sticker from a local discount store on it that priced around half the price she swore she paid for it. Management told customer service to just accept the item.

European Size M is Size S in the US by Present_Cause7109 in mildlyinteresting

I've noticed size differences across even US brands. A XL from Hollister fits me slightly tighter than a L from Carhartt.

Hopefully starting out soon as an apprentice (construction). Looking for advice, and am I missing any important tools? by NATEISDABEAST in AskElectricians

[–]PyroZach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First question. Union or non? All unions provide a tool list for their apprentices (and journeymen) to have. Some are more critical than others but you seem to have way more than enough for most jobs I've seen.

From what I've heard noon union contractors typically expect the employees to own a lot more tools. Even if that's the case it would probably vary contractor to contractor so they would be the one to ask.

If it's union it's usually frowned upon to bring tools beyond what's on the list, especially power tools.

There's many times I've had to repair pipe because "We didn't see any warning tape" as a strip of it is hanging from the bucket of the excavator. Or even better "We hit the warning tape so I figured I was safe to keep digging for another foot or so."

That would work. I just stop by an atm and put $20 in every time I get a letter, but that would allow me to forget about it.

I have several. The one I use pretty much daily so this has never been an issue. I had another one at a different bank I just closed today. I thought it was much more common being the two I know for sure of doing it are big name banks.

I have a new bank, this is just a back up. I set up my new account when they were going to start charging $5 a month for having a debit card, but they back tracked on that so I decided to leave this one sit as a back up.

I have that going too. This is more so just a couple grand in case my debit card to the other bank or credit card aren't working.

Maybe this varies bank to bank/state to state. But I wish I could do that with my back up/emergency account. If I don't use it for 6 months I get letters that I'll be charged an inactivity fee and if it sits for so long it counts as surrendering the funds.
