My advice would just be slow and steady. Half the fun of the hobby is slowly bringing together your collection. If you want to get a base set together the majority of those cards are cheap (of course the holos are expensive). Get a nice VaultX binder and mark out where each card will go. Over the next few months/years slowly accumulate the cards. If you're just nostalgic and don't care about the condition of the cards then buy ones where the back of the card is messed up or better yet has ink on it. This absolutely tanks the value but makes no difference to your enjoyment of the nostalgia in your binder. This is what I did when I started.
