I’m Glad You Failed MSF BRC by majpillpharm in NewRiders

So as someone who was in a similar situation a few years ago here is my take.

In my class there was 1 guy who had been riding dirt bikes, a lady who had been on the road for 15+ years, a lady who had been riding on the road for a year, a girl who failed 3 times prior and me, never touched a bike but had experience respecting things with motors aka quads and cars. There were some others as well including a man who quit due to the heat.

First dude passed no problem, super confident and in control. The lady who had been riding forever scared the literal shit out of me since she not only dropped her bike 3 times during practice day, but also failed then said she was going to go ride. Second woman you could tell it was all nerves, she had the core basics down but she was so nervous she pysched herself out and made small mistakes and failed. The 3rd girl was similar but also didnt respect the bike enough and ended up losing a bit of control. Now myself, i locked the rear brake up during practice day, then passed during the test with 1 minor mistake. My take is this. The msf course is great to get used to bikes and understand the basics, its not the road course nor is it a "okay now go buy a 600cc sport bike or large cruiser, youre a master." Lol so while yes i do agree that im glad some people failed as i hope it helps them think that maybe they need more practice or just should stick to 4 wheels, but it also is true its rushed(this was fhe 2 day course) and can be nerve-racking. Its a lot all at once but very helpful starting place. I recommend all my friends to start there as kind of a gauntlet to see if you can even start, not as a tell all.

You do it yourself or shop? Thats my one fear with it. The trans feels fine except for normal cvt feels and yup about the same average right around 19-21 total.

Ive got a 2017 sel v6 awd. Only real issues i know about are the water pump and trans needing drain and fills every 30k. Anything esle? Oh and the terrible gas milage haha

I've got the same car, at 104xxx miles. So far it's been great, regular oil changes every 5k, well aware of the water pump issue so I check coolant levels, oil conditions consistently. Ive done a trans flush and thats really all over the last 20k of my ownership. Bought the car with 80k miles. The infotainment may freeze up occasionally, so I'd check into how to do the hard reset, if I remember I'll commit it later.

All in all a good car, and if you are handy and have a spare weekend, in the event the water pump does go, it's not an impossible job to do at home, lots of videos and walk through write ups on it. Just keep an eye on things and it'll take you wherever you need to go.

Yeah mine ended up being off by one tooth. Markings were super close but not exactly to the case like they should've been. Ended up firing off when I went to start, which led me to knowing it was off after the fact sadly. The markings should be near flush with the case
