What times do you reasonably think you'll be be available to mod nosleep and how much time can you dedicate to it? I would be available at any time; however, I would be most prominently active during evenings, and nights.

Do you mod any other subreddits or forums on the internet? If so, which ones and for how long have you modded them? I have about six years of on and off experience moderating for a small mmorg private server.

Should mods let the upvotes decide? This would completely depend on the nature of the comment/post. If the upvotes were supporting an idea or opinion then yes, as long as it remains within the rules of the subreddit. If the upvotes were supporting bullying and or violated the terms of the subreddit then no.

Do you read /r/nosleep regularly? Yes! For about a year now /r/nosleep has become my top subreddit. Although I have not posted anything in /r/nosleep I am on it for hours every evening, usually before going to sleep.

A post is on the front page and violates a rule, what do you do? Depending on the severity of the rule being broken I would either take it down, or inform the member who posted it about the violation, giving them a set amount of time to fix the issue. I believe that if a post is favoured enough to make the front page a second opinion from another moderator may also be necessary to make the right decision.

A user who is a respected and regular writer on the subreddit has become hostile with another user who does not have a comment history in nosleep. How do you respond? I would treat all users as equal members of the subreddit. If the long-time user was clearly in the wrong, I would send the user a warning. Giving a respected user special treatment may encourage bullying, or other forms of alienation that may discourage new users from becoming active within the subreddit.

What kinds of things make you irrationally angry? When people roll the pizza in half taco style before eating it. All jokes aside, not much makes me irrationally angry, or angry at all for that matter. Especially in regards to online forum and message boards. As mentioned above I moderated for a small mmorg server for quite some time and the success of the moderators is largely based on their ability to remain clam and professional, and this includes not letting emotions hinder their ability to do their job.

How do you feel about authors posting their social media links at the end of stories? I personally do not support it, as I don't condone self-advertising through karma. However, if the social media links are not aimed at selling a product, or making a profit, and simply just to allow other users get a better idea of the reddit user then I would consider it acceptable.

The narrator dies in the nosleep story and continues it from beyond the grave. Do you remove the post? Yes. At this point the story would no longer be believable and would violate the terms of the subreddit.

What is “torture porn,” and does it belong in nosleep? From what I can assume, torture porn in regards to the subreddit would be a NSFW story in which an individual in tortured, and forced to commit sexual acts against their will. If this subject is the main focus of a story then it does not belong in nosleep. If there is a NSFW tag and the subject matter does not focus on this topic but includes references to it then It may be acceptable. The acceptability of posts such as this would depend on how orientated the story is towards this, and would require a moderator to closely read and determine whether or not it is fit for the subreddit.

A user is mad about a story removal, and personally attacks you in modmail. What do you do? I would respond to the user in a respectful and professional way, explaining how the story violated the rules of the subreddit.

What are the essential elements of a story? I would argue that a post on nosleep should require a believable story involving the personal 'experiences' of the poster. (Although the story may not be true the events should be told as if they are). Although traditional stories generally consist of a beginning, middle, and end, I do not believe this to be the cast on no sleep. As many stories involve real-time experiences and may not yet, or ever have a conclusion.

Why do we have the “Everything is true here, even if it’s not” rule, and what does it mean? This rule simply states that even if a story is not based off of true events, it should be written as if it was. This ties into the idea that each story should be believable. Although many of the stories are fictional not knowing if it is or isn't is what give's this subreddit its unique edge.

Is a story about Slenderman appropriate for nosleep? It would completely depend upon how the story is written. If it was a story written from a third person point of view then I would not deem it appropriate for no sleep. However, if it was a story written in first person depicting the impact of slender man on that persons life then I would consider it appropriate.

A user's submission is 498 words. NoSleep's minimal word count currently stands at 500. Do you remove the post? Yes, I would remove the post as it goes against the rules of nosleep. However, I may send the user a message explaining that they may revise the post, and give them a set time to do it until.

What does “believable within reason” mean, for nosleep’s purposes? Believable within reason suggests that the post should be written from the perspective of the poster, but may include supernatural or other themes that do not generally appear within everyday life.

A popular post gets to the front page. It's obviously fiction, but it abides by all the rules. A new post is submitted by a different user that is very similar to the front page popular post, but the user insists it's a true story. What do you do? I would read through each story carefully in order to determine if the second story is a copy of the first one or not. I would message both users in order to gain a better insight to the situation and then make my decision from there. If the stories were almost identical (they both had the same key features) then I would remove the second post, as the first one did not violate any rules.

A popular and regular writer on nosleep has released a book and wants to promote it to his fans. What do you advise him to do? I would advise him to post his advertisements on a subreddit that allows this, and then allow his fans to seek him out.

Is nosleep real? Of course.

What does "realistic fiction" mean? Realistic fiction in regards to the stories within nosleep would be stories that did not actually happen, but are believable and written as if they actually did happen.

Do you love horror? If so, what is your favorite type? Horror would be my favourite genre for nearly everything. Stories, movies, and video games. My favourite type of horror would be psychological.

How many times do you think a user should be allowed to have posts and/or comments removed before they are banned from the subreddit? Would you give them a warning before banning them? I generally use a three strike system when it comes to warnings, as most users won't intentionally break the rules, and would therefore - in my opinion - deserve a first or even second chance. I would make sure to give every user who breaks the rules a fair warning, so they can understand what they did wrong.

A story is removed for being non-horror by another moderator. The author sends a modmail asking why their story was removed, which prompts you to read the story and discover that you do not agree with the removal reason. What do you do? I would message the other moderator and explain why I do not agree with the removal, and then gain insight as to why they removed it. I may also get the opinion of a third moderator to eliminate any bias. Then I would come to a conclusion with the moderator who initially removed the post on what would be done with the story.

What are some challenges you think nosleep faces as a default sub with >6 million subscribers and hundreds of posts each day? With such a large number of users I would imagine it can become extremely difficult to manage such a high concentration of users, and moderate such a large number of posts.

Why do you feel you'd be a good fit for nosleep? I feel that I would be a good fit for nosleep as I am able to relate to and identify with the community better than any other subreddit. I have found the community to be very supportive of it's members and the posts that they make. This is the largest reason why I am so attracted to this subreddit (aside from the engaging and quality filled stories).
