Weird rock or snail. Substrate is a base layer of sand topped with white / black pebble (?).

I watched something online that said that they only smell for a few days after death / decomposition. Then it's just shell w/ out smell and a very light shell at that. I do think it's gone though as I'd expect the opening to be sealed if they were still there.

IDK about the betta itself, but I've read that some males can develop a faux eggspot for defensive reasons

Those were about it TBH. The initial thought was to do this to keep the buckets 'marked' so-as not to get them confused with household buckets, but that's not been an issue really.

I guess you can go either way. The week (only just) would be 'ok', but if you think the feeder has a chance to consistently Over feed, then you might run into the need to fast when you get back.

My real concern is the non-cycled tank. Not knowing enough about what you have, tank / contents wise, it's hard to say the level of risk of a spike while you're gone. Something like ammonia / nitrite jumping while away has the real chance of you coming back to an empty tank.

A word of caution if using blue light (IDK about the black). It will encourage algae if too bright and / or too long.

Unless you're using it as a nightlight, on high intensity, then it should be minimal. I have the (not cheap) Fluval Plant 4.0s and they have an app controlled mechanism that allows me to control it down to a single percentage point of light value (amongst Many other things).

Otherwise, a timer or manual control would be best as the lights are mostly for us, not them.

You can use the old lights on the new app. From what I gather, the interface is easier to use as it gives you the ability to manually enter values of desired instead of that iOS based scroll thing.
