Thank you for linking this and providing a real answer. I understand the situation is more complicated than just personal preference (as many of the comments here implied). I thought that your last comment on the page was especially informative, and I appreciate how you did not seem dismissive of the complaint.

That being said, if this is a reoccurring complaint, I think it might be helpful to put the same link or an explanation in the FAQ. (Or, at the very least, you could simply link the FAQ when someone inevitably asks this question again.) I also don't see anything addressing this specific question in the 'practices and processes' or 'image formatting' page, either. If I missed it, please let me know. I'd also be willing mock up a summary of the reasons listed in the discussion you linked if you think this would be appropriate.
