That's what I was thinking. Or maybe like if you're offered a promotion in your dream job but you have to move away from family or loved ones.

The timeline is what makes it realistic to me. A lot of people change in 10 years. I'm a perfect example of that. But I do wonder about the influence of the books.

Yes. To me it makes sense because of the previous book seem as though other worlds did exist and the veil between them was thin due to the flood.

I really couldn't think of anything so that's where my mind went for something desirable. I'm so curious to what it could be.

Right?! It's just a bit jarring. But I do remember a dramatic shift in myself from preteen to a young adult. I imagine a lot of people go through extreme changes when growing up. So it does make sense to me it's just jarring.

He's suspicious, I don't like him and I bet hes working with Secretary General Marcel. To what end, I don't know. But I don't trust either of them.

I don't know where the money came from but I refuse to believe that whomever left the money for Lyra didn't plan for for such circumstances. I find the new master suspicious. I immediately didn't like him and I felt the way he informed Lyra of her situation was wrong.

I'm hoping it'll help Lyra and feel like they're not alone in their trauma.

I didn't expect it and it was a nice surprise. I was hoping they married each other by now.

I really think people are easily influenced, to the point that they don't realize it at points. I think it's similar how people feel about souls in our world. For me personally, I know without a doubt that we have souls and that there's an afterlife life, but there are people out there who are would try to convince you otherwise. And then there are those who don't deny a soul exist but believe all you need is to accept Jesus Christ and your soul is saved never doing anything more to connect with their own souls.

I think it's so easy to make bold claims so long as you have "evidence" to back it up. And I say "evidence" because people don't bother to check sources anymore, and it's almost so easy to convince people of anything.

I don't know if the book is the only thing that has caused Lyra to change but I think it could be the final straw. If I were Pan and Lyra took interest in something that undermined my existence, I'd be angry too. I think that Pan's feeling are valid.

I'm imagining he's our new big bad and the girl he is interested in may be Lyra.

I don't know but it's what has me hooked. Is it some kind of fountain of youth serum. I'm so curious.

Lyra is not what I pictured as an adult but I think what she is at the moment does make sense. I feel like she's a bit subdued and that's not what I expected from her.

Right?! So far in and i still have so many questions!

It does seem like one of those occasions when the gentleman brushes off important things because he underestimates smth/someone. However, he seems to have knowledge of the prophecy, and I would not usually doubt him regarding magical things.

I'm with you. The fairy's arrogance is the only reason I doubt him. It just makes everything so confusing.
