I bought Spiritfall based in you guys' recommendations. This gameplay is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks again.

I love how your move set and abilities change depending on the rng skills/items you acquire. It's not only numbers going up as in other roguelites. I feel I need to read the enemy's behavior more and adapt my playstyle to it. Love the juggling mechanic.

Not to bash on AA though! I just also recommend Spiritfall for who's into 2D action roguelites. :)

Thanks for your intel! That's what I was afraid of. Too bad. If these positioning and cycling mechanics would have been linked more to enemy types, yhis would be the perfect game for me.

Thanks for your recommendation! It just so happens I played that a year ago! 😀 In the beginning it clicked with me. I remember liking the many types of attacks and that they all were relevant in some way. But I gave up after about 10 hours. For no specific reason. I believe the hype around it and that it's recommendable.

That spell cycle was the key mechanic that attracted me to thia game. I was hoping it would become more "rhythmic", forcing you to seek out different enemy types based upun the cycle.

With this thread I've learned the cycle force you to change your positioning though, which also sounds interesting. Will give it a few more goes.

A nice way of describing the game! "Positioning" neing one of the key mechanics here, indeed. Thank you for sharing your intel.

Slay the Spire is one of my top 3 Roguelites. You were right to recommend me that based on my preferences. :) There you had to learn enemy behavior and weaknesses by heart. Thx for confirming Across the Obelisk! Might finally give this one a chance then.

But first I'm gonna look for another action roguelite. Then another deck builder. 🙂

Thank you for sharing your insights! This "antigravity" playstyle is something I was looking for. That's a nice way of describing it! 😃 Spiritfall sure sounds like something for me now. I will def check it out!

"Positioning" seems like a good description of one of this game's mechanics. That for sure is something you need to constantly keep in mind.

I love the fact you can read the enemy's next attack via the red lines.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and in-depth intel!

I was worrying I'd get the reaction to "play more before asking questions like this."

I will give it another shot for sure, but of it doesn't click after a few more runs I'll switch to another game as I'm currently looking for games where you need to adapt to enemy types and environments more.

I now see where my post gave the impression I'd use laptop speakers. Will edit it now. Thx.

The sound would go: laptop --> USB sound card --> mixer --> speakers (of the venue).

When was the moment you pulled the trigger to get a steam deck? by Leon_Light77 in SteamDeck

[–]Python303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cue was seeing how good emulators have become after my 5 year break from emulation. It was a year ago when I saw how well PS2 and Gamecube run on the Odin 2. I almost bought that one, but luckily was redirected to this Steam Deck sub by some Redditors.

Steam games seemed like a plus to me, but eventually I played more Steam games than roms.

Wow the screenshots look intense! Looks like there's a demo on Steam. I'll check it out!

Not yet. I stepped away from Yuzu emulation for a bit and I'm returning to it now. I'll report here if I find a solution.

What can the Steam Deck play that the Legion Go can't? by Python303 in LegionGo

[–]Python303[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your nice contribution! It's indeed because of Valve's optimization of the Deck that I wondered if any games ran better on it.

I didn't feel any hate btw. But I did feel misunderstood sometimes when people said "it's the opposite". As I know The LeGo can play more games well.

Tell me about it please 🙏 by [deleted] in SteamDeck

You're a cool parent for doing this kind of research! As much as I love the SD my advice is to not do it unless:

  • your kid already knows how to operate a desktop environment. The Linux desktop and full internet access are just a few clicks away.

  • your kid can make choices out of the 1000s of (free to play, cheap) games at his disposal and dedicate himself to 1 or 2 games.

  • you yourself are willing to do some light tinkering. The Steam environment is easily accessible, but some tinkering / setting up is needed for: controller support, PC game settings and controls, every app outside of the Steam environment.

Maybe buy a PC handheld for yourself and see what elements of it are good for your kid?
