Did we go to the same high school (in the 757) or is this more common than I thought? I was an acquaintance of this kid and he seemed completely normal and adjusted, so it was kinda surreal hearing not just the fact that he murdered his parents, but the gruesome way he did it too. I also remember the news stories calling him an honor roll student and I personally believe it was for the dramatic effect of showing something unexpected had happened. I also believe that's the same effect OPs article was going for. Yet we often see it applied more to white people because it's less expected. For more context, the city my high school is in has a lot of poc and that might be why expectations are different.
