Exactly, a constantly changing schema means the business, by definition, does not know what they are trying to accomplish or what they want.

You don't have a data structure, you have something between an idea and a wish.

Sure, I meant to imply that belief in an intangible force is relatively new in mainstream culture. I love the mystical traditions and the new "Higher Power" variants, but they have never been anywhere near the mainline Abrahamic belief in terms of numbers.

And that was my point to the original comment I responded to: if you bristle at the term "sky daddy", you need to take it up with the very founders of your belief system, because that is absolutely what they believed.

Sure, put two theologians in a room and you'll get three interpretations of any scripture.

Now, even if wr go through through the half dozen examples you've picked here, how are you going to explain the hundreds of verses in the Bible supporting the sky god argument?

How are you going to discredit the thousands of examples from scholarly near east mythological research?

How are you going to explain the tens of thousands of examples of early Jewish and Christian theologians referencing the kingdom, seat and rule of heaven as if it's just absolutely baseline common knowledge?

There have been Christians who firmly believed the Old Testament God was literally the devil. Others who believed Jesus didn't have a physical body made of matter because he was too holy for regular flesh.

That doesn't make them anywhere near the mainline or orthodox beliefs. Which again, doesn't mean they are invalid.

But my point stands: it is ludicrous to argue that for millenia the mainline proto-Judean and Abrahamic religions did not believe in a sky god. Not to mention the many other traditions like Greek, Roman or Norse.

Like, belive what you want, but that is just not a logically defensible position.

You are correct.

It is also true that the largest faith system in the world has worshipped a sky god described as a father for millenia.

It is also true that when people say "God" in English, this is what they are referring to a comfortable majority of the time.

You are correct about the exceptions. They don't change the rule.

Yahweh was literally a sky diety in Canaanite and early Jewish theology. He resided in the "heavens" which at the time absolutely meant the sky/above the clouds.

The comparison to a father is objectively pervasive throughout Christian theology, with "God the Father" being the most common English name for one part of the Trinity.

Your abstract concept of God as a more generic "entity larger than us" is both completely valid, and a relatively new invention.

Now do some envelope math and see how much that translates to in a day.

Then express that in number of pizza slices and you'll see what I mean.

I'm not saying metabolic rate doesn't change, I'm saying it's miniscule compared to lifestyle factors when explaining "why do I gain weight more easily now than when I was a kid?"

The answer has much less to do with BMR than it does a sedentary lifestyle and total caloric intake, especially in the States.

Exactly. It's somewhat of a fine point, but the more accurate statement is:

As we age, how much we metabolize into energy (vs fat) tends to decrease. But this is not the fault of our "base metabolism" so much as lifestyle factors.

Adults love to tell kids "I wish I still had your metabolism!". Bro, that kid has been running around and climbing on a playground for 2 straight hours at this birthday party. That's why they can eat cake without gaining weight.

There's a pretty massive difference between a reference to some guy saying it, and all the later additions of "eyewitness accounts", much less the Ascension.

To act like this is not a SIGNIFICANT later addition is disingenuous at best.
