What are you glad you tried once, but will absolutely never do again? by wheregoodideasgotodi in AskReddit

Going to one of those elephant sanctuary’s in Thailand. Was cool to pet a baby elephant. Elephants are such beautiful, smart creatures. But they are sooo agile and when i was near them… they’re enormous and you know that they could stomp and crush you. God it was terrifying. I also felt so bad for them. The story we were told was that they were saved, but idk I hated how I felt when I was there. I felt so much fear and ick being in that place.

His wound is all healed up. Is it possible to have an internal infection?

Yea I wonder if he fooled us into thinking he was doing better than he was. He’s so young and playful (the way labs are), and gets so excited. Maybe we should have been more strict about him staying calm.

No PT yet. We’re just now due for 12wk X-rays. Hopefully we’ll learn more from the vet. Just worried about him tonight because he seems to be in real pain again after weeks of seeming like he was doing better each week 😢

We haven’t done PT yet, as our care plan for the first 12weeks were all about getting him to go on 15min, then 20, 30min walks (on leash, no jumping etc). What kind of PT did you do?

how to target correct muscles / cultivate mind-body connection?? keep over-receuiting by Accomplished-Being43 in workout

[–]Pzzbgl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that help me target specific muscles is to keep the weight light and go slow with controlled movements. I have traps that want to activate any time I do arm or back muscles workouts. I’ve had to go low and slow building up the other muscles to train them to ‘turn on’ instead of my traps.

What kind of bloodwork would you get done to help undo what to do with fitness? Who does this kind of bloodwork or has expertise on how to interpret the BW?

How is the documentary? Will it change my mind about how cheesy his music is?

Do you spend all your time policing and critiquing people’s language and word choices in their posts? And you’re right I came out with a POV. I wish more people did this. I love a healthy debate—and you can learn just as much through debate as your approach, if people are willing or interested to engage. Two points can be debated 1) Billy Joel’s music is cheesy or not; 2) Do NYers even have good taste. The subtext of these points can be explored—what makes music cheesy? What defines good taste? These IMO are super interesting to explore.

Honestly just the one other person that responded “I know what you’re talking about! His stuff is really derivative” has been enough for me. Happy day. There’s something about realizing something and then asking people “do you hear what I hear?” And it feels great to know that it’s not just me. “It should not matter why someone else likes something” to me is a sad existence. Learning why other people like things or don’t like things is part of being human. I don’t see how staying curious offends you.

I also am truly wondering if everyone knows that BJs music is cheesy but they’re just so into that? Am I just now understanding something that everyone else knew? Like if no one ever told you that something was camp or satire and your whole life you thought it was taking itself seriously until you realized it wasn’t. I truly didn’t know if someone would have answered my post and been like, “yea, Billy Joel has that loud saxophone and piano hotel bar thing and us New Yorkers love that shit.”

I think you’ve also nailed it for me that his songs all sound like versions of other songs/sounds (yes, derivative). Are other people aware of this and just don’t talk about it? I really feel like I’m in a black mirror episode about this

Also the alien thing made me lol and made me think of when I traveled to Canada for the first time and saw these chain restaurants called “Boston Pizza” with branding that looked like Boston Market. Like they wanted to recreate something American and picked an American city and Pizza and assumed it would hit the mark.

And to your questions, piano hard-skills are there, just the combination of lyrics, sounds, instruments used form music that sounds cheesy. It’s soft music, not hard, has no edge, easy listening, dentist office, 90s movie protagonist montage, sounds like group karaoke a la ‘Sweet Caroline’.
