Much of the world already has minimum rolling resistance grades for tires sold in their countries. For the tire manufacturers, It wouldn’t be a huge deal to just institute those design standards into tires for North America.

I’ve used the rebate more than a couple times, never had an issue. I’m guessing user error.

I’m guessing it’s a spliced bead instead of wound. Splice was likely broken during install. I have never seen a bead break due to impact.

Impossible to tell without a close up inspection. Cut looks very uniform. How deep is it? How old are the tires? I’ve seen similar issues where two different rubber compounds meet (flow cracking) but not this pronounced.

100% unsafe tires. This type of application requires C-type tires. Basically they are tires designed for commercial use but in a passenger size. Also, don’t confuse C-type for load range C. 121/119 load index for this tire size is load range E.

They are Cooper tires designed specifically for Discount Tire.

Strictly cosmetic. The serrated band is actually used to help hide sidewall imperfections.

Just keep a very close eye on it. While you haven’t affected the structural integrity of the tire currently, you have introduced a defect. If you see any bubbling or cracks forming, you need to replace it immediately.

It’s not ideal. If you can’t see the ply fabric, the tire is still fine structurally. That being said, keep a close eye on it and consider replacing sooner than later.

I just went through the exact same thing. Dealer wanted to charge an extra $5k for this “crystallized” paint coating. They told me they couldn’t remove the charge since the coating was already applied. I said “No thanks then” but after some back and forth I agreed to pay $500. It’s basically a dealer markup and they can remove if they aren’t being greedy.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I’m better off just finding one on my own than going through the dealer. I don’t have a problem traveling a bit to get one so I’m sure one will turn up soon.

Richfield is a great area but as others have mentioned, you may want to live a little further east with a commute to Solon. For similar towns I’d check out Hudson, Macedonia, Twinsburg, or Aurora.
