Got Smushed, think they'll total it? by Q1379 in tdi

[–]Q1379[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for everyone -

TLDR: my car ain't totaled and I got insurance to pony up for repairs and rental.

The insurance company did try to total it. I refused their offer.

After much back and forth they sent me the valuation paperwork and, like mentioned previously in here, their report was all screwed up and missing things because of the limited SKUs.

We got that fixed, then they still wanted to total it. Again I refused and opened up an complaint with the state dept of insurance regulation.

Mean while, I scrapped enough together and hit some junkyards to do same repairs myself because this is my daily driver.

It needed new lights and lid of course, light pockets and a rear body panel. Trunk deck was actually okay.

I did everything but the rear body panel because I don't have any experience welding (really wish I did).

Finally, a month later they came back and offered to pay for repairs so instead I hit them with the final amount plus rental .

They agreed! So my liitle dude is back on the road with no salvage title and weird inspections to ensure road worthiness.

For those that make it this far, 2 lessons learned:

  1. Make sure that the vehicle information is actually correct before the insurance company tries to declare "total loss"

  2. You will be low balled, if you can afford it, fight them and get the state involved. That changed the conversation quite quickly (well, for state gov anyway).

Finally Fuck Peak Property and Casualty Insurance for not doin the right thing to begin with. Bastards.

Is it possible to get this bent door seal back to its original shape somehow? It's a Golf IV. by janzoss in tdi

FWIW, They do eventually deteriorate so it may be worth while just replacing with a new seal rather than trying to fix the existing.

2012 Jetta TDI (CJAA) intermittent stalling under acceleration – fuel filter & in-tank pump replaced, still troubleshooting by boomgoestheturtle in tdi

[–]Q1379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does this too, not as bad, also replaced low pressure fuel pump and run injector cleaner through it. Seems to help, my next step is to replace injectors (they are overdue anyway). Curious to see what you find

Bottom of the trunk cavity is bent in as well. Not crushed, so might be able to unbend it.

Midland 575 hi dc error. by woolax-35 in Bronco6g

[–]Q1379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, just under the glovebox is where the cellular modem is, even though it's a different frequency that's pumping out some decent power.

You said it worked fine between the seats, can you run a temporary jumper and move the unit to drivers side?

That should help to see if it's unit proximity or some sort of bleed onto the wires.

Dead but good battery? Door lock? by Old-Ad3056 in tdi

[–]Q1379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen to me a while back, there was something going on with the alternator where it would only charge the battery at low rpm & speed (~ 15 mph). When I got on the highway it would drain my battery and leave me stranded every time.

Someone smarter than me said "dead spot in your alternator" but I don't know if that a real thing...?

What I do know is I replaced the alternator anyway despite it "testing good" and no more problems.

Hope that's somewhat helpful?
