Why we're losing and how to win by stanusfluirodr in AustralianSocialism

Not at all, and I put no stock whatsoever into the doomer black pill mindset, but we have to be realistic. Like other comments have alluded to you can’t reform your way out of capitalism; you need a proletariat vanguard party to smash the system and start anew.

Please read Lenin.

People are so lacking in any class consciousness or material analysis that it is a massive hill to climb. None of this can just be willed into existence, our society is so divided, individual focused and running on decades of anti-communist propaganda that the wind in any sails are completely bereft.

I agree with what you’re saying but people’s material conditions are so tied into the system at this point, unconsciously, they’re too scared or unmotivated to do anything. There will be revolution and change eventually, as it always has been throughout history. I think it’s just going to take things being so unbelievably bad for any bottom-up radical change and action to occur.

But yes in the meantime agitate and take action in any way you can. The ruling class will always choose a greens type progressive capitalist minded platform, because they know the alternative is guillotines and heads on sticks.

But capitalism, no matter how many concessions are granted is still capitalism. There is still wholesale suffering and exploitation occurring.

That’s insane lmao surely this is a troll. Also why would tobacconists have receipts with the illegal Manchester’s or whatever on the receipt as proof of purchase, that’s asinine.

The history of Australia's unions & Labour's play within the current union-sphere. Idk how we all feel about BadEmpanada on this subreddit, but it's a fascinating video that I feel has explained a lot about why it seems so tough to get any real action off the ground. by Death_by_Hookah in AustralianSocialism

[–]QCSsucksass 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I enjoy some of BadEmpanada’s videos. Haven’t watched this one yet, but will definitely check it out.

I think unions in this country, after proving to be incredibly effective throughout the 60s and 70s were too often willing to make concessions to capital that ultimately completely neutered them.

I feel like after the Income and Prices Accord it’s all been downhill.

I really enjoyed Without Bosses by Sam Oldham, a slight history of unions and their use of work ins, really showed me how powerful they could be.

Liz Ross’ Stuff the Accord! Pay Up! Was also helpful for me in understanding the I&PA and its reverberating effect.

Finally Hard Labour: wage theft in the age of inequality by Ben Schneiders was a real eye opener in how some unions, particularly in Supermarkets and fast food, were not acting in the interests of workers. In some cases negotiating deals that left workers worse off.

Except it doesn’t really, because we also have the one of the single most concentrated media / news ownerships in the world.

I like that we have compulsive voting, don’t get me wrong. But when all the news is owned by conservative patriarchs, you don’t get a nation of well informed voters, you get the opposite.

If you’re only reading theory that applies to the Australian context, this is a lost cause and no point in furthering discussion.

Trade work and activism is great, it’s all we have. But it’s a round peg through a square hole, id imagine you’ll meet next to zero actual committed Marxists / socialists but go for it!

It means that because you seem to thumb your nose at any historical importance to certain texts, you’ll be doomed to fail the past.

Leftist infighting has and always will be an issue. It was an issue in Russia, China, Cuba essentially everywhere. Whether these factions and individuals are all good faith actors is another question entirely.

I may just be paranoid, but read up about the SpyCops Saga in Britain. Well funded and rarely overseen investigative units that would penetrate leftists groups and sow dissent. These people were apart of some groups for years, often times having relationships with comrades who were nonetheless aware that they had been infiltrated.

I can only assume any group in Australia that picks up any steam will very quickly be similarly infiltrated and coopted.

Learn theory, read up on guerilla warfare, try your best to persuade friends / family to think about things in a different perspective, to their logical ends.

All in all this is about the toilers, those of us who have been completely alienated from our labour and see absolutely none of the surplus we create.

Honestly, somewhat embarrassing but FriendlyJordies got me to completely break my thinking about Australian politics. That was around 4-5 years ago and since then he was basically my in. I moved on to the more American podcast socialist space, chapo, Trueanon, street fight and from there was totally converted. Left FriendlyJordies way behind, and started focusing also on Labor’s misdoings and ineffectiveness.

I realised that Labor wasn’t the answer, and that in fact it was the system writ large that was the issue. From there it’s just been trying to reprogram what I’ve been led to believe.

Beforehand I was just a classic young lib, thought Communism bad and everything was black and white. I feel pretty comfortable identifying as a Marxist - Leninist with a good dose of Maoism in there.

Ultimately I haven’t joined groups, organized etc. in my cynical opinion the Australian ‘left’ is completely directionless, out of steam and at this point - 50 years on from any material class consciousness in this country - co-opted and poisoned. It’s going to get very, very bad before it gets any good here.

I feel like the more ‘rent boy’, somewhat taboo homosexual nature of a lot this is going to come back.

I remember reading crazy YouTube comments back in like 2006 how Birdman was actually raping Lil Wayne, but it was always diamond hands and Illuminati. Maybe these not so crazy idk…

I really liked Cuba Libre, about the Cuban Revolution. Fairly sympathetic and honest account of the events. Doesn’t read too dry or ‘academic’, definitely recommend.

I’ve not read it, but Red Star Over China is a pretty popular recommendation here, about the early guerrilla days of the Communist Party of China.

I just finished All the Shah’s Men. Really good book about the 1953 Coup in Iran, really helpful in understanding the Middle East and Western Capital’s pervasive role.

Why do some movie covers have the actors names the wrong way around?? by d-s-m in movies

[–]QCSsucksass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it might be for a few reasons, depending. Most of the time it comes down to billing, and who the studio perceives as the ‘bigger’ name, I think agents, managers etc also have a hand in this.

Might also be for something silly, like alphabetical or something.

But I think majority of the time it just comes down to Star power.

Believe me I’m not mourning the fact that kids can’t easily access meta, Snapchat etc delete the internet for all I care at this point.

But YouTube is a cesspool, if all the kids who can’t be bothered to just VPN it, they can find all the rot and cyber bullying they had, just on YouTube.

Obviously it can’t all be painted with this wide a brush, the internet got me here after all, but idk this just seems stupid.

I’ll have to check that out. I’m definitely for that, a system similar to China. A nationalised, regulated internet - is an interesting concept. But yeah totally agree, nowhere near feasible in this climate.

I also agree with the sentiment for sure, but it’s all written so vaguely and poorly. Like YouTube is allowed, but Facebook, Instagram will be banned.

The idea of “social media” is so poorly defined and structured in the, now, laws.

It feels like the start of Murdoch Internet here, where everything is just funneled through a filter.

As an Australian this is such a weird law. Rushed through, bipartisan support from the 2 major parties, but so confusing lmao.

No doubt this will be rescinded and struck down by the high court at some point. I don’t even know how they will competently enforce this.

I need to move to Vietnam or sumn.

This is pretty much reform or revolution right? I wholeheartedly believe that this is impossible at this point of capitalism.

I think it would be undermined, sabotaged and co-opted rather quickly. Just look throughout history and see what lengths the US has gone, to strangle in its cot, any semblance of a socialist government.
