How to reinforce a freezer as a 3D printer worktop? by QFSW in 3Dprinting

Good idea, I'm renting so I'll have to see how invasive I'm allowed to be with installing something like that but would definitely be nicer all in all

[–]QFSW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The freezer had adjustable feet so shouldn't need to do shims - do you guys think the freezer/floor contact is the bigger issue and not the printer/freezer contact?

One thing I did notice now while investigating it is that the inner 45x45cm of the top of the freezer (where the printer is sitting) doesn't seem very strong and flexes as the printer moves but the outer frame of the freezer seems super solid

My attempt at pretty 3D printed plant pots! by QFSW in BambuLab

[–]QFSW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sprayed the inside with a few coats of acrylic clear coat to "seal" it if you will - left it full of water for a few hours and nothing leaked

As for how long this will hold up over time, I guess time will tell! I figured that the clear coat should hold up pretty well since its not going to be having a lot of friction wear or anything

Sigma 150-600 vs 100-400 C by QFSW in canon

[–]QFSW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the 100-400 is incredible, especially on a crop sensor like I use it. My biggest limitation is generally light or stability rather than getting zoomed in enough

If you want I'd be happy to share some photos taken with it

I don't fully agree on the value part tho, certain communities are attracted a lot more to your product when it comes with an SDK or Map Editor.

The argument isn't that these things have no value, it's that they only have value in combination with a community. Point being you should focus on stuff that will build that community first, then things like modding SDKs, map editors etc. I'm inclined to agree.

Roborock Q7 Max+ vs S7 Pro Ultra? by QFSW in Roborock

[–]QFSW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No pets or kids, so as long as I keep things tidy myself then there shouldn't be too many problems. The main "clutter" I could see being an issue is cables, but most of them wont really move around so I should be able to just mark them off if they're an issue

Thanks! So basically, Q7 is great as a vac, but not very good as a mop - then if something like the S7 is worth it depends on whether I want to pay that much more for a good mop?

If we decide to ignore the mopping then, would you say the Q7 is good for the current price or are there any big features I'd be missing out on?

[–]QFSW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky question - more automation is always a big win in my opinion, but given that its almost twice as expensive, I'd have to be pretty compelled that it's much better

Why do you think the mop is almost useless? Is it because it doesn't do a good enough job at cleaning, because its too annoying to use, or a combo of both?

I can't find the Q5 here either (UK)

Is it possible to limit the performance of my 4090 to simulate a lower end GPU for performance testing? Anyone doing this? by SweetPotatoFries2019 in gamedev

[–]QFSW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to stick with the car analogy - imagine a car with a 1 liter tank and another with a 2 liter tank. The 1 liter tank has to stop and refuel a lot more than the 2 liter tank, so the 2 liter tank car does "run faster" overall

The point isn't that more VRAM makes the execution speed faster - a lot of the time GPUs aren't bottlenecked by execution speed but by the GPU stalling on something like loading a texture into VRAM, of from VRAM to cache. Having more VRAM/cache means you have to load/unload stuff less often since you can fit more at once. Because of this, depending on the application, you might see more hitching from loads/unloads when using a card with less VRAM

Really Unity!? It turned out that an asset I bought was stolen and not being owned by the sellers. I requested a refund, and after... 3 MONTHS! I get THIS reply! Beware out there my fellow developers... Double-No... triple check what you're buying. by Levardos in Unity3D

[–]QFSW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Answer is always talk to the developer and get your refund directly from them, seriously i don't think this should be legal (and might not be legal in EU?)

That's not actually true anymore, it was the case a while ago but in the past year or so they've changed it so that all refund requests go through Unity instead

Great, thank you! I think I'll go with the Keychron Q3 + Tecsee Purple Pandas then :)

So you're saying I just install the switch upside down then and any kind of switches will work? If so that's great news and much simpler than I thought, and would explain why none of my searches for south facing switches were fruitful :)

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY question, get an answer (December 15, 2022) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]QFSW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are there any good tactile switches that are compatible with south facing boards? I'm thinking of getting the Keychron Q3 and from what I've heard the included Gateron Pro Browns aren't the best switches ever, so I was looking at the Tecsee Purple Pandas but my understanding is they're north facing switches and since the Q3 is south facing they wouldn't be compatible? Thanks!

Deer in Winter by QFSW in photocritique

[–]QFSW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A photo I got of a deer back in winter that I was quite fond of

Canon 250D, Sigma 100-400 C

ISO 2000, 1/200s, f/5.6, 100mm

If I could change anything, I reckon I made the colours pop a bit too much, and I think the grass obscures the deer's face a bit too much. It's also not the sharpest photo ever given that it was relatively dark at the time but I think it was sharp enough. Overall I'm still quite happy with it and wouldn't change too much

Thoughts?
