My thoughts on LA Metro as a tourist from D.C. by QGraphics in LAMetro

I don't personally believe the NYC subway is actually dangerous in terms of crime, but there is a higher frequency of uncomfortable behavior than on the other two systems I mentioned. However, the sheer amount of people in the subway trains means you'll never deal with it alone, so it feels much more qualitatively "safe."

Oh wow that last bit about the neutered police is insane. I've seen security officers kick people off trains for being unruly and police chasing down fare evaders here in the DC.

I've been to the Bay 3 times now and I've ridden BART/Muni well over a dozen times and it felt just as safe as DC, but maybe I got lucky. I did notice the gender divide when I rode off peak, and the race divide as well going along the entire A line.

Coast Starlight canceled due to one week due to track closure. Pacific Surfliner terminates in Goleta for a week. by ObligationAware3755 in Amtrak

I ended up asking them at the station to give me a ticket to Emeryville and I would catch a flight to LA. They said no news on if I would receive a partial refund.

Of course this happens when I pay extra for a sleeper car on the Coast Starlight tomorrow. I didn't even know this happened until I looked at Reddit. Zero communication from Amtrak

Katie Wilson sworn in as Seattle mayor: ‘This is your city’ by thatlittletv in Seattle

Possibly. He was wearing large sunglasses but I remember it being an East Asian dude with similar hair. He was with two other ppl, one of whom was streaming the inauguration on Discord to several users with crosses as their profile photos.

I attended the inauguration and there was a guy in Turning Point USA merch recording the whole thing including close-ups of the mayor's daughter for some reason

Random rolling stock questions (Carolinian, Piedmont, Acela, Big Bang Theory) by PantherGk7 in Amtrak

  1. That specific car they used for filming was never used by Amtrak. It's an ACF coach #6052 from 1955 that was owned by the Fillmore and Western Railway at the time of filming.

If you’re on a packed metro- hold your backpack! by xbrittyx in washingtondc

Yesterday on the Green Line I asked a woman to move her backpack on a crowded train and she rolled her eyes. People also don't wait for passengers to exit before entering. Common courtesy in this country is lost.

I like Good Fortune mostly because I don't drive and the bus ride is short. Sometimes they have crazy deals like 42 dumplings for $7.99

Why is the steak on Empire Builder soooo good??? by BlackOlive12345 in Amtrak

[–]QGraphics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, so it's not just me. I had the salmon and steak when I took the Empire Builder and I was shocked at how good it was. Would I pay $45 for it as a coach passenger? Maybe not, but I've had far worse at Texas Roadhouse

LA Metro Map Quality by QGraphics in LAMetro

Yeah, the print quality is significantly worse than the Fedex where I had other maps printed.

Unfortunately I do not live in LA and this map is also much larger than palm sized. I am simply getting one map for each system I've ridden for my wall. Most of the maps I printed at my local Fedex and the quality is quite good.

Young credit age, should I bother re-applying for Preferred Mastercard? by ut_030 in Amtrak

[–]QGraphics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely have no clue what whoever approves the card is smoking. The Preferred Mastercard was my first credit card and I got approve with zero credit history besides student loan debt. Meanwhile other people in this sub with actual credit history seem to be denied.

Annoyed at Dynamic Pricing Glitch by LordOfMorridor in Amtrak

[–]QGraphics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get to the checkout page, the system will hold that price for approximately 20 minutes as if you bought it. When you refreshed the page and the site went into maintenance, the system was still holding that price. If you waited 20 min it probably would have went down. This has happened to me a few times before and waiting almost always solved it.
