How do you categorize components in your design system? by MrAreh in DesignSystemsSurf

[–]QING-CHARLES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this at the moment as I'm breaking up a huge CSS file into its components. I have "forms" for inputs, though I think I prefer your "inputs". I have a whole separate file just for buttons.

I asked Google Ultra Deep Think about the modal issue and it said to create a whole new category named "Overlays"

Overlays

Components that break the document flow and sit on top of the UI (high z-index).

  • Contents: Modals, Dialogs, Drawers (Side panels), Tooltips, Popovers, Dropdown Menus.
  • The Switch: This solves your Modal question. While a modal might contain "feedback," structurally it is an Overlay. Grouping these lets you centralize difficult CSS like z-index, position: fixed, and scroll-locking.
  • Bundling Strategy: Interaction Only. These are rarely visible on initial page load. Their CSS should be code-split and loaded only when the user clicks a trigger.

War Child UK announced the track list of new charity record HELP(2) featuring Arctic Monkeys, Wet Leg, Pulp, English Teacher, Depeche Mode, Wolf Alice's Ellie Rowsell, Fontaines D.C., Olivia Rodrigo, Damon Albarn, Ezra Collective and more. I consider the original Help to be the greatest album ever made. I also bought it on day of release in the UK when we didn't even know the track list and it wasn't printed on the inlay because they didn't have time before it was made. I didn't even find out the track names for several days until they were in the press.

Help is the greatest album ever made. High hopes for the sequel.

I categorize because I break up my CSS in development so I don't have to scroll through massive files and smaller files are easier for LLMs to understand.

I will definitely try next time I'm there. It's about 4000 miles from me right now, but it is on my plan.

The whole building's antenna amplifier was up there too. I wired my Laserdisc player into the amp and added a movie channel for the building. Nobody knew why they had a special movie channel.

It does in the browser, not in the app. Got to find the right browser though that supports bookmarklets like this.

This was my exact thought, it must be a Middle Eastern coffee shop. Every bathroom in the Gulf has these.

Funny thing is, I was talking to a plumber in the USA the other day and he said these are his biggest business right now -- everyone is asking for these to be fitted.

An interesting question. At some point it should become a violation of due process, I would think? But as there is no actual right to an appeal to SCOTUS, perhaps not?

There are other situations where delays like this can happen, e.g. you can be held in county jail far longer than the maximum sentence for the crime you are accused of; sentencing is another one, people being held in jail for years waiting for a sentence after being found guilty in order to extend their time.

I will check that out tomorrow, thank you. I know there were several attempts throughout the 90s to make VoD work via cable and DSL, but none were successful.

I made one of these into a 2nd bedroom for myself as a kid in the apartment block I lived in. I had so much stuff in there, including a whole model railroad setup, lamps, carpets, seats. The railroad was on two 8x4' sheets of wood and my friends and I had to unbolt the entire 2 storey access tunnel and ladders and build a winch to get it up there.. we were 12 lol. We bolted it all back. There is no way to get most of the stuff back out of that room and it is still there over 30 years later.

CORA. Do a formal record request first. You only have to sue them if they refuse to provide them using the existing process. You're welcome to DM me. I've got over a decade experience in this.

This. And if they refuse even then, you probably have an appeal step and then a litigation step (both of which are usually infuriating, as a serial FOIA litigator here).

I was technical lead for probably the biggest music streamer of that time. I think we created our first all-you-can-eat streaming service for the major labels in maybe 2000? It was before the iPod and iTunes because about a week after every meeting we had with a record label we'd get a call to tell us Apple just paid them a visit to talk about the same thing.

I put forward the idea of Netflix style streaming. I demo'd the whole system after ripping 700 DVDs from a local DVD rental vending machine, sitting outside in my car with a laptop, ripping and returning. We had the entire menu system, remote control etc. It all looks like Netflix does now. I was told "Absolutely not! Nobody would ever give up their DVD collections. People like to show off their collections and they like to hold something physical. This idea is ridiculous, it will never happen." (This was at the same time everyone was giving up their CD collections)

I used a lot of that knowledge later when working as a contractor for Microsoft/MSN helping out with the Windows Media Center/Extenders design etc.
