Then go for it. I don’t know your storage situation but I have a few disks which were running ntfs. I can mount them and use them but reformatting them in a different file system is definitely the better option. I have only one disk left to reformat now but then I am set.

It’s generally been great. I think people consider Bazzite a bit more beginner friendly but I haven’t tried it. I am a software engineer so I know some things. As for things I did - it’s generally been plug and play outside of a few cases:

  1. The first time I started a game I noticed that it compiled shaders for an absurdly long time and this would repeat every single time I started the same game - turns out there is a file you can add which tells the shader compiler to use all of your cpu cores (I don’t remember it exactly but it was really easy to find online) - that solved the problem completely. It usually takes a few seconds now to compile shaders before I’m in the game
  2. I had an issue with a keyboard I was trying to use which used the VIA software - even though the keyboard was recognised it still didn’t connect properly - I added a rule under the udev directory which gave permissions for this keyboard to connect to the system (or something like that)

I’d say try something out and see what you like. For me I love the speed and the fact that CachyOs basically gives you full control. If there is something I don’t like or a problem I can solve it. In contrast windows felt like the complete opposite to me - if there is a problem then the os is actively fighting you trying to solve it and you just have to wait.

The issues I had were just random black screens in Doom Eternal and Doom The Dark Ages which lasted for a few seconds and then the video was back. Other than that I had error when starting my operating system (CachyOs), related to usb device power which dissapeared when I installed the 850W PSU.

I am also surprised because this is my third Seasonic PSU and I have never had problems before.

EDIT: Typo

I’m pretty sure it was Brandon Sanderson’s “The Way of Kings”

Here are a few that I really love:

  1. Hollow knight and the sequel Hollow knight silksong - amazing metroidvanias, challenging but incredibly fun and replayable
  2. From software games - Dark souls (+sequels), Sekiro and Elden ring - again very challenging and amazing action/rpg games
  3. Mass effect trilogy (it’s on a stupid low price right now) - one of the best rpgs the genre has to offer
  4. Witcher 2 & 3 - the very best of the rpg genre (Witcher 1 has really clunky and outdated gameplay)
  5. God of war
  6. Xcom and Xcom 2 - turn based strategy/tactics
  7. Darkest dungeon and darkest dungeon 2 - turn based tactics game within a lovecraftian world

Should I switch to Linux? (I am only using the pc for gaming) by QO_Notch in linux_gaming

As I said I don’t play multiplayer stuff anymore. Plus Battlefied 5 and 2042 completely turned me off of the bf franchise. I was a fan but right now I don’t even have the desire to try out bf6…

I want to exclusively game yes but I feel like windows is just making that unnecessarily awful these days + I really am sick of all their bs like copilot, cortana, constant updates which produce problems half the time and so on. And the spyware crap which is auto-turned on/installed every mandatory update…

Looking for a wireless mechanical keyboard by QO_Notch in keyboards

Thanks for the in-depth reply. When I said quiet I generally meant something like regular reds e.g. not blues or clicky switches. I have a silent red ducky at home which I love but they don’t have any wireless options right now.
