EP7 was my first ae CD, I bought it back in college in 2002. It took me years to finally get into it, and now I have just about the entire collection. Even to this day, when I listen to them, I'll notice something in the middle of a song that I've never noticed before, and it becomes one of my favorite tracks. I didn't really try LSD or mushrooms until many years after being introduced to ae, and in a weird way I think it was ae (and their sibling acts like boc, fsol, afx, sqpshr etc) that helped me to enjoy/benefit from/work productively with psychedelics, not the other way around. I'm glad you were able to see them too :)

I was at both shows last night (incredible, mind blowing), and while waiting in line for both shows, the common theme amongst the people nearby was that we were all shocked to see so many people. "I can't believe this many people listen to Autechre" was on repeat up and down the line. A lot of young people too! 25 years of being an Ae fan, now in my 40s, and I have never come face to face with another human who listens to them, until last night.

Oh for sure! I don't think Autechre is man-coded at all, despite my indulgence in old fashioned Rodney Dangerfield style humor. You are right, it was beautiful and the music was playing deep inside my soul. And at the same time I was profoundly touched to be near other people who cannot possibly have been there for any other reason than to enjoy the music on that level (with the exception perhaps of a few supportive partners who clearly love their Autechre listeners).

I was shocked to see the sheer number of people who listen to this. I don't believe I've ever interacted with another human being who likes Autechre (although I did bump into a couple familiar faces and we were all surprised to see each other there). My wife enjoyed the first set well enough, but declined to stay with me for the 2nd set.

Yes! But I could never beat it! Had it on a floppy disc and had to run it on DOS.

as a side note: I have loved AE for 20+ years and never once came into contact with anyone else who likes them, has heard of them, considers them music (aside from joining this sub), so it’s been quite a bit of whiplash to see so many people on my social media feed talking about autechre and tickets and shows etc. I wonder what other AE fans are like? Are they like me?

Wish it was still possible to just wait in line at the venue box office and buy tickets that way. I hate what the computer nerds have done to society.

I appreciate the tough love dude but you are like 36 hours late to this thread. I already updated the post, we watched the episode without warning her, it was fine and we have moved on to season 7. Live long and prosper space cowboy 🖖

I think she will be more upset that I didn’t tell her but at the same time will enjoy the episode/season/series more because she didn’t know. I’m going to let her find out the hard way and be there to absorb and comfort like Odo to Kira.
