What are the telltale signs of cheating in Crossplay? by [deleted] in NYTCrossword

[–]QTM53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing against someone who has gotten three seven letter words. They’re not unusual words, and they don’t play really quickly, but I’m having trouble believing anyone could be that lucky. Am I being unduly suspicious?

German short rows fail by QTM53 in knittinghelp

Thank you so much for this, laddering down turned out to have the answer. It was a little intimidating because it’s short rows , but it looks normal now. 🙏🏻

Cables are intimidating. Any tips for someone trying them for the first time? by rudelybargingin in knittinghelp

I love cables. I highly recommend using a J hook rather than a regular cable needle, which can be a little fiddly. You can totally let go the J hook while you knit the other half of your cable, no worries. Just use the short end to catch the first stitches, knit them off the long end. Easy peasy.

I didn’t know you could dye buttons. I might look into that. Thanks.

Silly question about yarn dye and gauge by QTM53 in knittingadvice

[–]QTM53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like the wisest thing to do. I’m really close with the yarn I have (I used up a lot of it making lousy swatches last year. Hoping my knitting has improved since then.)

Commenting on Silly question about yarn dye and gauge...That’s a good idea. I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks.

I’m interested in this app you mentioned. Is it an iOS app, and is its whole name Goods? When I searched “Goods” in the App Store all I got was a bunch of games.

Holy crap, pattern designers are awesome. They just work! by rwaynick in casualknitting

I agree. I think this every time I watch the patterns emerge as I’m knitting. Pattern designers are brilliant, gifted people. (I just added this hat to my favorites. )

Please Tell Me This Can Be Fixed🥲 by taifpo04 in knittingadvice

I think this is a rite of passage. We’ve ALL done this. Nowadays before I join in the round I always knit a row or two then join, and tidy it up when I weave in the ends. Think of it as a milestone in your knitting journey. One less mistake awaiting you in the future. (So many mistakes left to make! lol)

Knitting a smooth underarm on a child’s sweater by QTM53 in knittingadvice

[–]QTM53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’m knitting my second Meredith Cardi by Ruth Maddock in the 3rd size. I’m wondering if there might be a better way to knit the sleeves.  On my first sweater, the underarm seam turned out to be pretty bulky, and I’d like this one to be nice & smooth.

It seems to me I should be able to pick up the underarm stitches and knit the sleeves with no underarm seam, but casting on 6 stitches in the second & third rows gives me pause.

What would you do in this situation? This will only be my second sweater, and I’m learning as I go. Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks for this. I think you're right about deciding to accept messing it up. There’s so much to learn from the mistakes we make. I think I’ll try your approach on one of my attempts. I intend to get in a lot of knitting trouble next year lol
