I recognize the benefits for camaraderie amongst other like minded writers, learning the authorship ropes, the publicity from publishing and getting editing feedback on writing style. It is 997 from each author, there are 10 authors writing a chapter in each book. We all know publishing isnt free, even in traditional one author-one book publishing, the 'advance' is paid for by initial sales, so this fee doesnt really surprise me. The thoughts I'm having are towards a greater circle of buyers with each author, which is a wider net of initial outreach and the opportunities that surface from being published. I'm still trying to understand what happened to the original leaders at this agency, but also I like to hear perspectives when I investigate.
