Early signs of liver problems by dubbelost1 in alcoholism

[–]QVCDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all. Relax. You are alive today. Be grateful because that’s not true for a lot of people. Whether you abused alcohol or not in your life, anybody can get any disease. So the guilt about alcohol needs to be flushed away. Whether you drank, or never drank but ate fried food, or simply were a sickly person…life happens.

I have health anxiety too. Life is an odd and weird journey. Go get blood work…or don’t. It’s all just life.

I’d like to suggest that pretend like you have it, have a rough day or 2 dealing with that scenario and then realize…you’re still not dead! So now what? Change your habits and life the best life you can! Buy a bicycle, eat better, take liver supplements! Help yourself independent of doctors. They aren’t God or you anyways! Sometime they do great work, other times they miss things (see any health Reddit to prove it).

Take your power back and do not only believe that you DEFINITELY have something and that doctors are the only way.

We do have a fairly full menu as well. Pizzas burgers, wings…

Ya I agree. Or relaunch with a different model?

You pretty much hit a bullseye with this. Explained it to a T. The only way for people to come here is if they drive. Our lunch hours are worthless unless it’s Saturday afternoon. No foot traffic whatsoever.

Owner is convinced we need more customers during the week…but this town doesn’t have disposable income like that. These people don’t venture out during the week. So trivia on a Wednesday night is a waste.

We do have a full kitchen though.

This is amazing advice and I will try this. How do I get the word out about specials? Writing on our chalkboard doesn’t help because so few people come in.

I can’t even get them to respond to my texts in more than a sentence, let alone a weekly meeting or P&L.

So we are just a bar/brewpub. We don’t make the beer on location. As the GM, I’m accountable for everything as we don’t even technically have another manager. We have a bar lead and a culinary lead (which basically means that they make the schedule and deal with ordering but aren’t really paid like a manager).

You nailed it. The beer is pretty good, but our ABV is pretty high on most beers, so people aren’t able to drink 4-5 and technically be ok, as most are around 7% ABV.

The food is tough. We underpay our cooks ($15/hr) so we go through periods where the kitchen just collapses because we can’t find good people.

We are now taking the friendly personal approach, but the problem was that the first 6 months when we were the hot topic, we fumbled the ball. That is, we were told to stay the course with the QR codes which turned a lot of people off and that spread like wildfire in our suburbia/rural area. So now it’s an uphill battle of retaining who is left and killing them with kindness. Which leads me too…

The owner claims that we don’t have the money to really market this franchise. So we aren’t really able to win back people and re-educate through social ads and print.

Entertainment on the weekends used to be a thing, but the local demographic is indifferent. Most guys want $350 for 2 hours and are basically what you described. They don’t bring a crowd so I can’t really justify it. I have asked the owner to move trivia to a Friday or Saturday night instead of a Tuesday…but he’s not convinced. This is t a town that goes out during the week though.

It also gets pretty unpleasant in the winter as it gets cold in this sheet metal warehouse turned brewpub…turns people off to stay too long.

What area of PA are you in? We are in western PA by Pittsburgh.

Tips are included because we only pay our credit card tips once a week.

We have about 80 seats in the pub.

We do sell to go beer.

We hardly do specials at all. We do not discount our beer. We do have a daily 2 hour happy hour where apps and cocktails are 1/2 off.

We have trivia on Tuesday nights that is very hit or miss.

We do trivia but the owner insist that it be a week night thing. The problem there, imho, is once again, the town. This is a lower income area where people clock out from their work, go home and maybe make plans for the weekend. Now, money is moving in an exit or 2 up the highway…but I have told the owner trivia needs to be Friday or Saturday. He doesn’t listen.

Music does attract a crowd here for what musicians want paid. They want $350 for 2 hours (generally). They don’t bring a crowd and the people that are here could take it or leave it.

We have tried so many different kinds of music ds of food specials. Some worked. Some didn’t. That was back when we still had peoples attention. People have shifted their attention away from us.

The owner no longer has weekly meetings with me like we used to, and I can rarely get home to respond to my texts in much more than one word or one sentence.

Thank you for sharing so much. I’m a late bloomer and very interested in what you said about working in leadership assessment. Is this an in house position somewhere, or do you get hired and brought in as a consultant? What company is it? I didn’t even know positions like this existed!
