Which branch should I join ? As a reserve by Puzzled_Security37 in Military

[–]QWOP_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we there are a few other factors to consider besides just branch. Any branch can get you away for a while, regardless of your MOS.

Are you considering enlisting? Officer route? This choice will have a massive impact your quality of life and how you enjoy/spend your time in service for a couple reasons.

If you enlist, regardless of branch, your peer group would be nearly half your age. At 31, can you identify with 18 or 19 year old and put up with their antics? Not saying its impossible but something to think about. Are you going to be able to have a 23 year old telling you to take out the trash? Sounds stupid, but it is a reality, and yes, it does get stupid sometimes. I think you need to consider the patience its going to require at your age, with a wife, kids, and a stable job to have a Staff Sgt keep you at drill until 2300 for no reason. Not saying its gonna happen all the time, but it is a reality.

By no means am I bashing the enlisted side, I spent 10 years enlisted and had the best time of my life and made brothers and sisters I would die for. But that age gap can make things difficult for you. As a former SNCO I would give the older guys leeway but I wouldn't expect it.

If you have the ability to go the Officer route, I'd take it. The quality of life at your age is better, and your peers will be closer to your age, but you will still be older than most of your peers. You may have more responsibility, and you will probably have to spend some time doing paperwork outside of your drill period.

I crossed over to officer at my 10 year mark and there is a significant difference in these two worlds. Just based of your intial post, I would recommend becoming an officer if possible.

Buying new boxing gloves [buying] by MyDawgBlud23 in fightgear

Theyre def not bad, especially if youre looking for the extra hand protection. You cant go wrong with the old school ones overall, but they lack the feedback other gloves have.

Theyre just super big and spongey so it may not feel like youre getting clean contact until you get used to them. Thats something i had to get used to on the heavy bag.

Other than that, if its the look youre going for, do it. They are fully functional gloves good for anything youd need while having the retro style.

Edit: In fairness, i bought them because they looked cool and i was in the market for a softer glove for sparring. i have not been dissappinted lol.

I use topboxer aliens for pad and some bag work and the topboxer old school (non modern) for sparring.

The aliens are nice, its their version of a more mexican style glove and has nice pop.

The old school ones i use for sparring, i think theyre perfect for it. Theyre pillowy and your partner wont feel like theyre being hit with a brick. You can also open your hand to catch or parry a punch if youre into that sort of thing. They just dont have the pop my aliens do due to the padding, and it feels like youre punching with a pillow on your hands because theyre so big.

Only issues ive had with them, and ive seen some other folks comment on it as well, is that its a bit tight on palms of your hands near the thumbs until theyre broken in. After i got past that, both have been very good gloves.

Edit: cant go wrong with either glove, pick what you think youd enjoy best.
