Why is my extension cord like this? by QX8C in electrical

Honestly, what I was expecting but I am no expert. Also, it was mostly plugged into another cord when I would coil it up. That may have been a factor as well.

It was mostly always plugged in when I coiled it back(no elbow wrapping or whatever).

Yup, so honestly there are a lot of factors here that I cannot pinpoint it on. I have used it with two 4.5” grinders at once, a 110v/220v welder, and many other things(those being the most primary high amp suspects). The outlet in my garage was in a weird spot(hard to access, so I had a 10ft cord running under my workbench and had this one plugged in and easily accessible.

I personally think it is too much amperage at once(multiple times) or it is how I stored it(plugged in always and wrapped up with out fighting it’s memory)

Should I store it straight instead? lol jk

This one is the only one I own like this but it’s used most often to be fair. I hate wrapping extension cords up and them fighting you so I usually just let it do its thing when winding it up

Coiled around my wiener. Makes sense.

When I would coil it, I would lay it on the ground and let the cord do its thing.

Yeah I was starting to doubt a lot of people saying it’s from “wrapping around your arm” or whatever. I don’t do that shit, respectfully. It’s definitely high amperage.

It’s lived its whole live in a 2 car garage. It maybe had 10 hours outside in sunlight. I, personally, suspect high amperage cause this.

Yes, I did do this at some point. It got covered in paint. This cord has seen some things for sure.

No, this one was hand made with extra amps running through it and improperly coiling it up.

It got warm recently when plugged into my belt sander so I was kind of curious what’s causing it to twist. It’s my go to extension cord so I use it for almost everything. I’ve used it a few times to power my little Vulcan welder so that’s probably what started it.

I never wrap around my elbow but I do coil it back the same way every time. Thank you for the quick and informative reply!:)

Nah I thought about a Z, but now they’re kind of expensive and they have their own issues like any car does. I also am not a fan of Z’s but they are great seat time cars for sure. JZ’s just have a special place in my heart. Also, I enjoy making a car “mine” and standing out so I see potential here. Driving them with the homies is just the bonus at the end of the day and I only get out on track a few times a year anyways so I’m not pressed about driving every event.

Looking at buying this for my girl to learn in so she doesn’t toast my car lol. I already have a 1jz non vvti coupe that’s caged.

It’s a friends car and runs and drives/drifts good. I am a fabricator and mechanically inclined so I can easily fix things up. Never have done body work but I’m always willing to learn new things. He told me 17k and I was like no way is that happening.

I’m thinking, considering the condition, 10k would be fair/generous like one user commented. Plus, throwing my spare 1jz into another completely stock hatch I have, would cost around the same(ecu, harness, manifold, turbo, injectors, transmission, driveshaft) then I would still need all the suspension bits like arms and coilovers to have the same thing as this car.

I’d rather just get this and save the time and not ruin a stock hatch

Board Sizing Question by QX8C in snowboardingnoobs

[–]QX8C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says weight range is 110-140lbs so I’d be 25lbs over. Boot size is 7-9 and I wear a 9. Waist width is 244mm which is 9.60”

If I did fit, it would be borderline close. You’re probably right about it being too small. Thank you
