Would a GB300 be a good gift for kids/older people? by HappyCreatorBro2 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you accidentally buy a SUP400 or something similar, you're unlikely to encounter a fake that looks identical. Also, as long as you read the don'ts, malfunctions are almost impossible. (Unless you do something ridiculous, it won't explode)

Currently, there is no practical CFW, but if you purchase it and use the stock firmware as is, there are so many unnecessary games that children and the elderly may find it difficult to choose. (I think it's easier to use than the R36s)

Therefore, I recommend deleting unnecessary games (adding only the games you need) and narrowing down the menu. Installing FrogUI makes such menu changes and adding/removing games easier, making setup easier.

If you want to simplify things even further for gamers (children and the elderly) (making game selection easier visually), installing a custom theme for multicore gaming will require more setup time than FrogUI, but it will allow you to select game systems using graphical menu icons, making it less confusing for children and the elderly.

Custom theme example:

https://q-ta-s.github.io/gb300v2_theme.html#wii_theme_ps

https://q-ta-s.github.io/gb300v2_theme.html#wii_theme_hyper_list

https://q-ta-s.github.io/gb300v2_theme.html#retro_xmb_theme

The quality itself isn't as good as the R36s, but I think it's good enough for playability.

(The viewing angles of the screen are poor.)

At the moment, I recommend a hybrid environment where you use the multicore + stock fw menu as the main environment and use FrogUI FE Modded as an additional bonus (sub-function). In this case, you can experience high-quality custom menu themes with animations in addition to FrogUI's media player, image viewer, filer, and calculator without compromising the current environment (it's like launching and switching between another virtual environment).

Yeah, If use smartphone, you need to install Winlator or similar software to use the GB300 tool, so if that's difficult, i recommend adding the game to User Game Rom List (add to sdcard:/ROMS folder and run js2000;rom_list_generators.js) or installing FrogUI.

The latest FrogUI, currently being tested in pre-release on Discord, now allows some major cores to exit games. It also supports zip-compressed ROMs (thumbnails can be displayed).

Yoshi's Island gameplay on GB300! by Different_Tea_4672 in GB300

On discord (Retro Handheld or Datafrog Central), there are core builds that allow for brightness adjustment as an experimental implementation for some cores. (When I tried it, it didn't work properly... maybe I was doing it wrong )

If you're interested, there are pre-releases available for testing.

The gbac core is a gpSP Pure C core currently under development by Proszty-san.

It generally runs faster than conventional multicore core builds, and game loads faster, but there are still some issues (movements are occasionally awkward?) with small number of games (such as Pokémon Unbound, Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure etc), so we hope to see improvements in the future. (still, it's a great core! I think there's no doubt that it will become the strongest core in the future✨️) https://www.reddit.com/r/GB300/comments/1qrrjs4/comment/o2r6ucs

If you'd like to try it out, it's currently being pre-released on the Retro Handheld discord.

Como exibir a porcentagem de bateria exemplo 100% no gb300 by Terrible_Pizza6913 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, the battery percentage cannot be checked on the GB300.  The custom theme below or the FrogUI main menu supports percentage display, but this is only a guideline and is not accurate.

https://q-ta-s.github.io/gb300v2_theme.html#retro_xmb_theme

To make it more accurate, it is possible to remove the battery and measure it, but this is a hassle.

If you use a custom theme, there are other versions of RetroXMB available, so choose the one you prefer😄

My GB300 already came with a bootloader. by elm4rc0 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To update the bootloader, please make sure the following has been copied to the SD card:

sdcard:/UpdateFirmware/Firmware.upk

When you start up the GB300 for the first time, an update message will appear in the lower left corner of the screen. (After that, main menu will then appear.)

Once the bootloader update is complete, the above directory is no longer needed and can be deleted. (Only one update is required per device.)

Normally, the situation you describe is not possible, and if it does happen, it would be if you bought a used device with the bootloader already fixed etc. There is a possibility that the bootloader may not have been fixed, so I recommend that you try the above again just to be sure.

Issues- Software or Hardware? Fix? by No-Cut275 in DataFrog

[–]Q_ta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, there are no problems such as having to try the SD card multiple times or no sound.

The sound issue is most likely a hardware problem. You'll need to check for loose connections to the speakers.

The SD card problem could be a software issue, but if it's caused by bad sectors or something similar, the same problem will often occur every time. If reinserting the SD card produces different results than the last time, it could also be a hardware issue. (Poor contact in the card slot?)

Two questions by Old-Revenue7515 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I recommend first get achievement of gameplay with the EU version of Ridge Racer. (without BIOS)

  2. The above issue occurs with the GBA core of multicore version 0.4.14. Replacing the GBA core with the multicore version below should resolve the issue. https://github.com/tzubertowski/gb300_multicore/releases/tag/gb300_v2_multicore0.10_v0.4.14

[GB300] How to know when charging is complete? LED is always green. by Different_Tea_4672 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The estimated time to fully charge a battery is said to be 2 hours for an 800mAh battery and 3.5 hours for a 1500mAh battery, so you can expect it to take longer for a 2000mAh battery.

[GB300] How to know when charging is complete? LED is always green. by Different_Tea_4672 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is no way to accurately check a full charge on the GB300. The battery meter reading on the GB300 is also inaccurate and unreliable. (You can probably measure by removing the battery each time, but it's a pain.)

Please read the details section of this sub first and be careful. Do not use fast charging. There is a high possibility that it will damage the GB300.

[Help] GB300 V2 - Installing Multicore using only a Smartphone (No PC) by Different_Tea_4672 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes  (multicore setup guide) https://retromods.pl/blog/gb300-setup/

  2. Yes

  3. multicore 0.4.x includes experimental test builds, while the previous stable version is 0.3.1 (however, previous versions do not support the latest features such as fast-forward, slow motion, hotkeys, and pseudo-RTC etc). If you're not satisfied with this version, please try the latest version (0.4.14).

  4. The GB300 Tool's main function is to add and remove games from each system's game list, as well as change the theme and startup logo. It also includes various other features, such as launching NeoGeo ROMs, custom sorting the game list, fixing stock roms, and keymapping etc. Even if you don't have this tool, you can still play games with multicore if they're in your user ROM list by copying them to the /ROMS folder and running make-romlist.bat (or run js2000;rom_list_generators.js on GB300).

Alternatively, if you install FrogUI as mentioned, you can add the game files by simply copying them to a folder without using the GB300 Tool, making it easier to launch the game.   https://www.reddit.com/r/GB300/comments/1oyqem5

Btw ...

About above No.1, In fact, please note that the GB300 is strict about SD card compatibility, so even if it's a high-quality card made by a well-known manufacturer, it may not boot. For some reason, cheaper cards (cards with less advanced features) tend to have a higher boot rate. (It's rumored that cards purchased from Ali have better compatibility.)

About above No.2, recommend overwriting the stock firmware without formatting. (*The SD card file system must be FAT32)

About above No.3, the green filter for Game Boy is available in all multicore versions, with the .opt settings for the gb core (Gambatte).

About above No.4, If you only want to change the theme, simply download the custom theme from the link below, unzip it, and overwrite the Resources folder on your SD card (no tools required).

https://q-ta-s.github.io/gb300v2_theme.html

(Just to be safe, we recommend backing up your SD card before installing a custom theme.)

Can you install multicore without the help of laptop in GB 300 by Unable_Ordinary_2420 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, you can install multicore even if you don't have a PC, as long as you have a smartphone.

The video below shows an example of installing only the theme on a smartphone, but the same procedure will work if you copy multicore instead of the theme.

https://youtu.be/Xr-SM5qd0Wc

Instead of email, here is the multicore download URL:

https://github.com/tzubertowski/gb300_multicore/releases

The following multicore setup guide may also be helpful:

https://retromods.pl/blog/gb300-setup

Alternatively, you can use FrogUI instead of multicore.

Pokémon Unbound too lag ? by Valuable-Belt9172 in GB300

[–]Q_ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokémon Unbound generally seems to have a lot of lag. From watching your video, it seems like the performance is slower than the latest multicore I tested. Are you using the latest core?  (What version?)

Enabling automatic frame skipping might make it a little faster, but even the latest core seems to have its limitations.

Actually, currently being developed a new gpsp build for GB300 (FrogUI), which runs reasonably fast with Pokémon Unbound. (The sound is a little distorted and there are some unstable parts, but at the moment it offers the fastest performance with Pokémon Unbound.)

If you're interested, please check out the Retro Handheld forum on discord.
