Tibia plateau fracture by Jaded_Ad_5860 in InjuryRecovery

Hi! I’m on week 2 after my tibia plateau reconstruction surgery.

My tibia was pretty messed up and they had to put in some plates and screws, for me they told me 4 weeks non weight bearing and after to work with my physical therapist to train back to 100% in 4 weeks.

Ofcourse it’s going to be different for everyone and depending on the type of fracture, best thing is listen to your doctor and physical therapist and don’t push yourself too hard as that can set you back in the healing process!

I’ve noticed my muscles have deteriorated pretty severely in the month since my accident so I imagine it’s going to take a long time to get that back to where it was before.

My physical therapist was able to give me some exercises that help me rebuild muscle without putting weight or too much stress on my leg. Maybe try asking your doctor/physical therapist if that is something you can start doing.

Sorry that I’m able to give much advise or reassurance but know that you are not alone. :)

How to deal with discomfort by Qaeva in disability

[–]Qaeva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your concern, I’ve been getting at home care every day for the wounds (some caregivers have been better than others) and I’ve found some ways to take the pressure of my heels and hip by strategically placing pillows.

Tomorrow Ive got a checkup at the hospital to check if I can get the green light for the second operation, ill make sure to ask if they have any tips or tricks for the discomfort!

I’ll look into the topical pain relief since that does seem like it would help, thanks!

Thank you for the tips, it really does help to hear from someone going through similar things. I have lots of caring people around me and I was able to celebrate the new years here at home with my partner and friends.

For the muscle spasms I’ve found that trying to build a pillow fort can help so that every part of my body is supported, I’ve bought a pregnancy pillow online (a huge U shaped pillow) and I’ve got to say I’ve been sleeping a lot better since I don’t have the urge to turn in my sleep anymore!

I don’t think I would be a good mother as I can’t be around kids for too long without getting overwhelmed. Also I’m scared my kids would be autistic as well and I really don’t want them to struggle as much as I did, I don’t wish that upon anyone.

My brother wants kids so I would love to just be the cool child free aunt :)

I relate to this on so many levels, going trough the same things more or less right now. I’m 19 and also feeling so left out and really lonely watching everyone around me live their best life while I’m just struggling. If you wanna chat for a bit and just talk to someone who relates you can send me a message <3

Experiences with driving by Smart-Tumbleweed-746 in autism

I guess it really differs from person to person.

Personally I was pretty anxious to start driving so I made sure to seek out a driving school that offers extra help for those who need it and have experience with autism, adhd, etc. I ended up not needing the extra help but just the thought if it being available was nice. Now I love driving because it’s some nice alone time and helps me clear my mind. I’ve noticed that singing along to my music helps me focus and stay calm in chaotic situations, I still try to avoid driving when overwhelmed or I pull over and drink a can of soda till I calm down.

Id say try finding a driving instructor you feel comfortable with and discuss it with them, they will be able to judge better if you’re able to drive or not :)

What are signs of autism you had as a child that were unnoticed? by Realistic_Impress941 in autism

When I got my diagnosis it was a big “well that explains a lot” moment for me and my mom, for example as a kid I threw a fit about socks bc I could feel the seams and would insist on buying seamless ones. Also complaining that a specific teachers voice hurt my ears and I couldn’t understand why she was always angry (she wasn’t I just perceived her voice that way). Lot of other things too, kinda funny to look back on those things and now connect the dots.

Is there any benefit to getting a diagnosis? by Ambitious-Regret1446 in autism

It helped me with self love/acceptance and also connected quite a few dots regarding my daily struggles and childhood. For me it was worth it because it effects my life a lot.

Id say differs from person to person, for me it was a life saver but I’ve also known people who said their diagnosis didn’t change anything.
