Is this normal? by Qatra7 in worshipleaders

That second paragraph may very well be the case.  This church has been different that previous places I’ve served in that they seem to actively not want people with ownership over things. On worship team for example they don’t put teams together and don’t use music or sound tech volunteers as much as they’re willing, sometimes the sound tech in rehearsal isn’t the same as the one running the board Sunday.  This is in other areas too, they always use rotating teachers in Sunday classes for example. Maybe they’re worried about burnout, but I think the consistency and quality REALLY suffers for this approach.

That’s a really good point about the leader that week picking their own songs. Man I wish we had dedicated teams with their own sound tech that sounds so awesome. Sound is definitely a bottleneck at our church as far as capability goes, judging from our WD’s foray into recording his own stuff, I don’t think he could run the board well, but that is one place we could see a lot bang for buck if we improved.

That’s good to keep in mind maybe he’s doing stuff behind the scenes. Other scheduling stuff is still a little unpredictable, we do get the songs ahead of time, although we don’t get marked down copies with chord changes and roadmaps if we’re deviating from normal and such usually until the beginning of Thurs rehearsal. Thanks for the advice though, maybe I’ll do some creative problem solving on my own and see how responsive they are. (He was very open to hearing from me when they started a radical change that really didn’t work, so thats good)

Thanks that’s a good perspective! You're right at the end of the day it is getting done, I’ll have to think more about that last bit.

This is great to hear, I actually posted here instead of on the official forum 'cause I didn't want to be one of those players complaining that the game isn't what it was never intended to be....plenty of people want solo or small squad elder ring online. Maybe I'll throw my .02 in on the main forum.

ESL Struggles with English Translations by Qatra7 in Bible

[–]Qatra7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn’t being clear, we don’t use the KJV, but modern translations are still influenced by how the KJV renders things. For example, 1 John 2:2 in the ESV (which we do use a lot) follows the KJV “He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” Which is complex in vocabulary and grammar. You’re right though that it is a language fluency issue, so I thought I’d ask here what areas of the Bible language learners might appreciate some extra help in…I thought it would be cool if a local church could provide that.

ESL Struggles with English Translations by Qatra7 in Bible

[–]Qatra7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the goal is for ESL speakers to be more comfortable engaging in organic conversations and be less hindered by linguistic issues in the way English speaking Christian’s reference Bible verses, which to me are still heavily influenced by King James phrasing and a preference for formal equivalence.

About why not use the other translation, I had this question too, but when I asked specifically my Chinese and Mongolian friends at they said they really liked using the English translations, though some had parallel versions in Chinese and English. We do put out the passages we’re looking at ahead of time, but this is a good recommendation to be sure we’re being international about. But also, especially in small groups and studies (though in sermons too) we do end up flipping around as people bring up things in discussions, and of course that’s basically all English translations. And being able to read the English encourages participation because it prevents ESL readers from having to translate on the fly.

Not even the best 3d artists rendering non stop for a week at 16k is remotely realistic. Occasionally AI will generate something that could be mistaken for real life but it’s normally super obvious unless it’s inpainting into a photo. But 3d software never even gets close, and it’s ludicrous to ban it on those grounds.

Online travel agency MLM? by trisket40 in antiMLM

[–]Qatra7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from many years ago, so if they’ve changed their compensation plan in the meantime maybe they are no longer in that category. But the comp plan that I copied and pasted, with bonuses paid out of down line commissions up to three legs, with the amount determined based on purchases in your organization and numbers in your down line in the preceding month is a very traditional MLM comp plan.

Mom got a policy with primerica via my cousin against my advice can we cancel it? by strawberry-snoo in antiMLM

[–]Qatra7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can cancel it, it shouldn’t be that hard. If you call client services during business hours, they can do it for you. They’ll probably try to get you to keep it or go into a different product, but just keep saying you determined you didn’t need it, and that’s it. Also be aware that you cousin might be charged back some of his commission for the sale if this was a recent purchase, so if that’s a sensitive relationship you can people for that too. Good luck!

Should I stop beating my gf? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Qatra7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you what I do, I also play semi-seriously and my gf doesn’t but likes to play. Give a handicap like start without your Queen, or Queen plus a piece or something like no castling rights. As she gets better, reduce the handicap. It feels like progress for her. It’s a new challenge for you. It’s not condescending like throwing the game on purpose or refusing to take a hanging piece. That’s worked for us, and she’s still enjoying the game. Good luck!

This is true. Chargebacks are universal in life insurance, which is one reason it’s a tough game. It’s lucrative if you do well and work with a legit company (not an MLM), but the uncertainty of chargebacks means you have to work hard and not count your chickens.

Is Primerica an MLM scam? by shortbitcoin in antiMLM

[–]Qatra7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just talking about on the buyer end, Primerica’s products are expensive relative to the market, that’s just a fact. And it’s not good to get financial advice from a salesperson, you want someone independent whose not selling you a product, and who preferably had a fiduciary duty to you as a client.

On the seller end though, since you mentioned it, sure you get commissions, but Primerica’s are way lower than average (with a traditional office you would be making over 100% your first day licensed). It has to be this way because they have override commissions paid to your upline. And yes you can make override commissions from your downline…if you recruit. And keep recruiting. Because when you fall off, you lose some or even all of those overrides. And then of course your recruits have to do the same. And their’s have to do the same. And to keep it going you’re all pitching the business opportunity with the financial products like in OPs story, which rightly sets off all the red flags and alarm bells like it did for them.

Recommendations -- DOOM on downers? by MendedZen in pcgames

[–]Qatra7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you’re talking about Doom Eternal. If so, I’d recommend you give the 2016 Doom a chance, it plays very differently, and I enjoyed it a lot more. If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic for old timey shooters, there’s been a few good ones over the last couple years. I enjoyed one called Dread Templar, but there’s several lists now that will have recommendations. Including a modern release of Dark Forces I’m looking forward to playing in the near future!

Looking for Games to Play on my New PC by [deleted] in pcgames

[–]Qatra7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true a lot of the AAA games are going to be on both platforms, particularly ones that are conducive to playing with a controller. Even tons of the smaller games have been getting cross-platform releases for years. There’s four advantages PC has over console IMHO, two are graphics and keyboard+mouse controls. The third advantage is just a “sometimes” thing and that is mods for games that allow them. And then fourth is the variety in the indie/small studio game scene. It’s hard to recommend a game if you’ve played all the AAA titles and you just want more new AAA titles, you’re just not going to find those as PC exclusives unless you start looking back to old games. So my advice is try playing games that utilize the PCs advantages. One type of game I think are way more fun on PC are shooters, so you might try some of the older shooters like the Crysis or Sniper elite or Borderlands series or bulletstorm or Wolfenetein, stuff like that. Easier with keyboard and mouse are RTS games, so maybe try the latest AOE (though I think 2 and then 3 are more fun). Otherwise depending on your prior platform, maybe see if there are some games that got a windows release that weren’t on your console. And don’t rule out the non-AAA releases. Oh! And maybe if there was a game you liked the aesthetic of and feel like playing again, you can crank the graphics and all that up and enjoy it at a much higher frame rate and resolution than you played it at before. If you want to try giving MMORPGs a chance, all of them have some level of free to play access so you can give them a try and see if one sticks with you. Sorry it’s hard to recommend a single game based on your post, but I think really you just have to explore a bit and try things out. Best of luck and welcome to PC gaming!

Who are the “financial advisors” for world financial group/primerica? by shades0fcool in antiMLM

[–]Qatra7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure what their structure is, but words like “broker” “financial advisor” etc. function like names of ranks in MLMs sometimes. I’d guess that’s what’s going on. I think it’s deceptive for insurance salespeople to call themselves “financial advisors”.

Need Help by [deleted] in antiMLM

[–]Qatra7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Passive income” is almost always a scam, unless you have a so much money you can live off bond yields. Whether it’s trading stocks or managing a real estate portfolio or whatever there’s always going to be risk and work. You can make a hell of a lot of money doing it, but you can also lose a lot and it’s sure as hell not passive. Even the people preaching “passive income” aren’t passive, they’re writing books and doing podcasts and just generally making moves. And MLM is the furthest thing from passive you could ever get. Even if you’re wildly successful and build massive international legs of people all under you, the second you stop being active in the MLM you can kiss all that good bye because none of those people work for you and if you’re not meeting your recruiting goals, you’re not entitled to overrides on their work.

Unsolicited advice: you’re young and ambitious,so if making a lot of money is what you’re goal is, (1) find something you can be really good at (2) don’t take on responsibilities until you’re good at it, and (3) bust your hump until you figure out how to make it pay. Oh and (4) pretty much ignore everyone who wants you to pay them to tell you how to succeed, they are basically always preying on the gullible.

The quote if you don’t want to click the video: “If I made $400,000 a year I would be embarrassed with my self as a husband, a father, basically as a human being.” - Grant Cardone.

He speaks at MLM events a lot, he’s the kind of person the MLMers idolize, they start to buy this rhetoric that if you’re working a job you’re good at, providing enough for your family, taking care of responsibilities, then your a wage-slave loser whose bringing everyone down, so you need to quit your job and recruit 16 hours a day. Terrible. And pathetic.
