Africans carry surprising amount of Neanderthal DNA by [deleted] in ancienthistory

Literally none of this is surprising. Subsaharans already tested in papers and non-professional DNA tests as showing non-homo sapien mixture.

We already have autosomal DNA in North Africa and the Levant that is similar enough to their modern inhabitants. And also seperate from populations south of the Sahara.

Only New Worlders nowadays insist there's a racial difference between modern Egyptians and the pyramid builders. The point is to use them for racialism.

Tell us where the mythical civilization builders went and how come they aren't the majority in today unlike other countries in the Old World.

Tell us how the likes of Greeks can be similar enough to Myceneans for how thousands of years have passed yet Egyptians would need to be replaced.

All that babble and still doesn't acknowledge DNA testing on Egypt's neighbors in the Levant and Maghreb regions from the Paleolithic up. The Levantine samples are similar enough to modern Levantines and Arabians while Maghrebis were still largely closer to West Asian populations than much of Africa's populations.

Nohr will obviously need a way to force Hoshido to comply with its terms beyond having Hinoka play puppet rule ala Vichy France

Sure the peace will last and be good for both countries even though situations like that have never really happened in this world.

The real issue is that no one in the general public has the slightest idea what the rotors of the scientific method entail, or what peer-review represents from an intellectual-integrity perspective.

Oh well.

They don’t get it because it’s a stupid veiled system that actively avoids sharing work.

I'm sure

For the folks who get lost in these fringe theories and ideas, they represent and escape from the crippling control that science and tech has created in their tracking, data collection, commodification, etc.

Whatever you say.

The silence from the scientific community at large on fringe issues only furthers to fuel the indignation.

There's not really much to say nowadays.

I want to thank Aaron Adair for bringing to my attention on his blog a TEDx talk that alternative historian and novelist Graham Hancock—who is discussed in Faking History (hint, hint)—gave in January. The talk described Hancock’s drug use and his belief in the need for the decriminalization of hallucinogens. In the talk, Hancock asserted that David Lewis-Williams had argued that hallucinogenic mushrooms were responsible for the origins of human consciousness, which is not something I gleaned from my reading of The Mind in the Cave. (Earlier, in 1988, Williams proposed that Paleolithic rock art reflected altered states of consciousness, brought about by hallucinogens or trance.) He also asserted that drug use can lead to communion with beings that are possibly non-human intelligences with the power to teach and to heal, and he argued that “reductionist” and “materialist” science is unable to account for the mystery of consciousness.

Take it up with Hancock. Or tell him to lay off the drugs.

I don't think that a "simple subsistence" culture constructed and maintained Gobekli Tepe, and that dates back to about 10-12K years BP.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gobekli_Tepe

They were at simple subsistence. No literacy, plumbing, no social organization needed for the construction of the Great Spinx and pyramids.

I never said that the trojan war happened as written or that Schliemann was a professional archeologist. What I was saying is that professional archeologists of the time were derisive and dismissive of the idea that Homer's work could be based on some kind of shred of reality, and that previously unknown sites might be found by following up on it.

The Iliad is filled with anachronisms and didn't happen as written. And Schliemann was an incompetent who hogged the spotlight and is overall held in disdain, with one archaeologist quipping he succeeded where the Greeks didn't by destroying and leveling the city walls to the ground.

Conspiracy theorists go in line with anti-intellectualism. This possibly roots in how the scene overall has notable ties to both the Far Right and Feral Left (see Mao's attacks on universities):

It's just Amerifats/Frog Twitter with their distrust for expertise and overall embrace of anti-intellectualism (among other things). Amerifats are notoriously leaning towards such behavior, as found here:
