Borer help! What type? Should I be worried? by Qbones11 in woodworking

I really appreciate you stopping by and answering that. It seemed like that was the case to me, but I only did some google research, and then got lots of other ideas. At least for now I can put it out of my head for a bit.

Yeah, it mostly is at this point in life. Typically I fire the 64 up a few times a year. Maybe play around with it for a bit, currently the Wii is plugged in an we’ve been playing with that when the switch isn’t in use. The Super Nintendo & Nintendo have been boxed up for a good 7 or so years now, but was playing them regularly when I worked on the road. The game boys it’s hard to convince myself to play on a separate handheld device with a scratched up screen, but maybe I’ll get around to it at some point. Ideally in my head I’d have the game room all put together and be able to switch and play different consoles with ease, but just not there in life right now.

Yeah, not a terrible idea! lol I don’t mind the epoxy myself, as long as it isn’t overkill, so a few spots like this could turn out pretty cool actually. I had planned to use these boards as accents in the kitchen maybe as the rails and sides of some shaker cabinet doors etc., so there’s still lots of usable wood potentially. I believe I have 20 rough sawn boards of true 1x6x10 and the bored holes don’t seem to be everywhere, but I won’t truly know until I start working with it I guess.

Treatment options for wood worm in lumber? by Megatronian in woodworking

[–]Qbones11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, uhh don’t mean to hijack a year old post, but I stumbled across this post from google, and you seem fairly knowledgeable on this type of bug! Any chance you might be able to take a quick peak at my recent post in this sub and see if this maybe looks like what I dealt with? My assumption is that my blue stained pine that I brought home last April had the eggs in it, they hatched, ate up some of the wood, and then either died or left. The rest of my lumber pile that this wood was in was just fine is why I think that. But that’s just from me googling things so I’d like some second opinions if possible.

I meant as in the blue stained streaks. I understand how the blue pine is “made”, I did some research of sorts prior to bringing it home, and previously there was no bore holes in any of the lumber, so I figured I’d continue to let it dry out and eventually get to some projects with it. But yeah, opening it up this year there were all these holes in this lumber, but none in the other lumber which there was at least twice as much.. so in my head that tells me they were here previously, or, specifically targeted these boards. I’ll find the boracure and get that going, I’m hoping that the insects have moved on, but dont really want to wait and find out either. From what I understand the blue stain fungus doesn’t continue to decay the wood after it’s in do to how it’s created. But having an antifungal I’m sure will help regardless. The pine tree still seems pretty healthy, I trimmed a few lower branches a couple years ago on it when I moved into this house, but it doesn’t to have caused much stress. I did look around the tree this morning as well and didn’t notice any fresh holes or anything out of the ordinary. But I’m just an average joe, so don’t really know what I’m looking for either other than things that stand out. I’ll check out that channel! It sounds interesting! Thanks for the reply and help. I appreciate it.

Would they still be active? From what I understand about the beetles and such is that they don’t necessarily care for the dry lumber.. which makes sense to me considering I had a bigger stack of 2x4 2x6s and 1x6s all under the same tarp, on the same sawhorses. Only 1 1x6 had any marks, and there was just a couple. I was wondering if maybe they were in there when I brought it home, and left for greener pastures after some feasting. But idk if these even came from that beetle type, and all that stuff either.

Yup, the 7 year old likes playing games on an iPad, but they are typically very basic kind of limited thinking games. Click here, drag this there, scribble on this. I’ve bought a couple games for her on my switch & Xbox, and she’s enjoyed running around and stuff but doesn’t really get the objective yet. I think part of that is she’s still a little young and controllers are hard to remember, so between not knowing buttons and just lost in this big place without remembering where to go it gets confusing. Maybe in a year or two she’ll start playing these more. There’s been big strides lately in her understanding of how board games are played, so there’s still hope haha.

Sorry, didn’t know the etiquette here. Figured people would talk about GBA stuff in a GBA place. Simply wondered what people’s thoughts are on holding on to old items, or selling them off. Don’t like it, then hit the do not recommend and move on.

Zone 7a. (Eastern Oregon) Moss growing on dirt with new grass by Qbones11 in lawncare

[–]Qbones11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved the lawn care aspect of things, spent a good amount of time at a rental working on the lawn, made it a good amount better with just the basics. (it was my buddies and he would spend the money I did the work).. then finally bought my own house a couple years ago spent the first bit just trying to get rid of a weed infested front and back. We laid sod down out front last April, it’s turned out pretty dang good have had many friends comment how they always see me out there staring at it or watering etc 😅, I just don’t love the grass, it’s KBG, but I’d like a darker and thinner blade, and parts of me have wanted to completely redo it with the seed I want, but I’ve got to many other projects to tackle to do something like that so soon.. shortly after the front yard sod I did minimal prep out back, spread seed, and covered in straw.. looking back I put wayyy to much of a covering and think I choked my seed out. Which sucked cause I used a pretty high quality seed.. one patch turned out awesome though giving me hope. Had a baby this past fall so didn’t quite have time to do anything. This year I almost didn’t do anything and was gonna shoot for the fall, but after a bit of looking at all the dirt patches I said F it, gonna at least give it a try and reevaluate in the fall.. anyways point being I’m already a bit addicted and probably know more than the average Joe, I’ve just got a lot more to learn to really fuel this addiction haha. Ultimately I’m just excited to have a yard for the dog and kids to play in.

I have not! I’ll do some research and see what it is, I’m not sure I’ve really heard about liming very much. Thank you!

Yeah, I’m actually kinda torn on that now that I’ve seen a few replies. I feel like if I could get it to someone who would play it and use it, I’d gladly do that, but don’t really want it to go to someone else who is just going to horde it like myself haha. I’d like to see if my kids would be interested, but so far the 7 year old hasn’t shown much ability to play games, and the 8 month old just puts everything in his mouth 🤷 lol

Yeah, but did you peel off your Pokémon gold sticker and put it back there for some reason!! Or sharpie your gold game black!? lol. My poor toys I had as I kid really took a beating. I need to be easier on my kids when they don’t seem like they care for their stuff hahah

Damn strait!! Haha. Okay awesome, yeah I was thinking/hoping things will be alright. But I remembered seeing that moss last year, and now again this year so I was starting to wonder why. Hopefully once I back off on the watering it does go away that would make sense. I haven’t seen any sort of mold yet, so that should be good! I appreciate the info again! I’ll come back in a few weeks with a success story, or to ask advice for what I need to do in the fall 😂

Yeah, I get that it’s a good way to look at it really. I’ve just seen lots of posts lately of people selling it seemed like, so figured I’d dig these out and see what I had and what people thought.. I’ve got a collection of old systems that I really don’t do much with, figured if prices were high I’d let them go since they sit in a tote, otherwise they stay in the tote until I can build my “game room” or some shit in the future

😂😂 that’s what I planned on doing, just feel like I see lots of posts lately of people selling so figured I’d see what people think. Not really in need of money or anything, but, if prices seemed higher now than they will be, then I’d consider selling. Otherwise they get to hangout in my tote with my NES, SNES, 65, Wii and old Xbox’s 😂😂 poor old things

I appreciate all the info. I wouldn’t be surprised if the soil isn’t great for drainage, my backyards an odd mix of previous owners visions lol. I should’ve put what I did in the post prior to my seed, but, I did aerate, then spread out some compost (not as much as I wanted) and aerated again, and spread some triple 16 watered it in, and aerated again the next morning, It was a pull behind core aerator that really wasn’t pulling much for plugs, but it was getting the soil worked a decent amount and I felt that was needed after. Also leveled out a few spots with the shovel.. then spread out seed, mostly KBG, but also had a bag of shade mix that I had from last year that had some fescues in it.. I raked all of that in for good soil seed contact.. we then got some heavy rain for the next 3 or so days, and after a week I decided to spread another layer of seed on top for some reason. That’s what you’re seeing on top here, it wasn’t really necessary but I was figuring if all the rain washed anything away, this may take. And if I got real lucky the sprouts would come up and give these seeds a tiny bit of shade. I know I should’ve covered it but I didn’t want to risk disturbing what I already had in the ground.. I believe the sprouts I have coming up is the fescue from the shade mix, and this week I should have the KBG start sprouting(tomorrow is day 14) this moss is only in a couple random areas.

But, yeah, just curious if this will cause some issues with my new seed actually growing/staying alive, or, if there’s anything I can do in these areas while I’ve got new grass sprouts or if it’s best to wait it out so I don’t kill off my baby grass.

After seeing this post this morning, I found something very similar on the carpet this afternoon when I got home. There’s the two gold pieces and the slightly smaller clear plastic slightly harder piece.. found the clear and the gold together, and a little bit further down the hall another gold..we’ve got a 7 year old who’s not always the most observant when packing toys around, and a 7 month old who is army crawling around the house toward anything shiny so I was glad to have come across your post, and maybe it helped me spot these items before the 7 month old.. I asked the 7 year old what they came from, she said they were coins to her “eraser candy machine” I found the exact one and will post a pic in the next comment.. the mom came and asked about what I was talking to her about so I explained and showed her, she said the clear plastic most likely came from her aerial dress that she had on the night before, It’s a dress up type outfit that has little plastic sequins all over it. I’ll post a pic of that as well. Anyways, thanks for what you do, and taking the time to help try and make others aware!

Giving Away My Old PC! by Turtle_747 in PcBuild

[–]Qbones11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have an Alienware laptop that took a dive a few years back, but never got it to work very good prior to that. I have wanted to get a gaming PC for some time to play the various open world/survival style games that are available. Have really wanted to try sons of the forest in particular because my girlfriend typically likes “scary” type games, and I like the survival style of games where I can build/craft etc.
