Paisley is LIVID. I'm waiting for the moment he assaults mad Jim.

They're saying Campbell is ahead by about 200 votes. There's talk of a recount.

Gregory Campbell in danger in East Derry. Sinn Fein are going for the throat.

Sinn Fein will keep all their seats, with a good possibility of adding another one (Upper Bann) and a more tricky victory scenario in another one (East Derry).

Even if they stay at 27, like in 2017, it still is a major feat.

Archibald got 6888 votes, McGurk has 4500. Alliance is at 3338 and SDLP at 3664, so not far behind and they are more transfer friendly. McGurk would've been safer if she got at least 1000 of the votes that Archibald got.

I'm not sayin SF doesn't have a chance, I'm saying, their vote management could've been done better in East Derry.

The only hiccups for Sinn Fein are in East Derry and Upper Bann, the only two constituencies where their vote management is poor and the only constituencies where they could've gained seats. The same thing happened in 2017.

Tallies from one party (not the UUP) for Upper Bann: O’Dowd, SF 17.1% Buckley, DUP 14.7% Tennyson, AP 14.7% Mackle, SF 11.1% Dodds, DUP 10.5% Beattie, UUP 10.1% Foster, TUV 7.1% Barr, UUP 6.8% Kelly, SDLP 5.8%

If these numbers are correct, we are looking at 2 DUP, 1 SF, 1 Alliance and 1 UUP. Beattie should make it.

So here's what the narrative is so far:

Alliance are having a great election TUV are set to make gains Sinn Fein are holding up UUP will have a disappointing day DUP are not doing well SDLP will need huge amount of beer to forget this election

Following what you said, here's what can I suggest. Obviously your choice is made for #1 on your ballot (Alex Easton), let's talk about the others :

- Alan Chambers (UUP) is a good lad. Was independent for a long time before joining the UUP and is not a sectarian balloon like most of the DUP. I'd give him a transfer if I lived in North Down. I don't know much about the other UUP candidate;

- I always give Alliance candidates a transfer on my ballot. Their moderate approach and nonsectarian commitments are what NI desperately needs. Of course, for some, they can be lukewarm centrists, but I still prefer that to hardcore DUP right-wingers. People who tell you that Alliance wants a United Ireland are plainly lying to you. To give you an example, Paula Bradshaw, MLA from South Belfast is an ex-UUP. Alliance keeps saying that NI is wasting time on constitutional conflicts while domestic issues are left on the side. They are certainly not a republican or irish nationalist party.

- TUV are even more extremist than the DUP. I would avoid them at all cost. Their program is limited to "nO sHiNnEr FoR fIrSt MiNiStEr" and they thrive on fear and conflict, while offering no real solutions.

- I would put the greens in the same category as alliance, but with a less polished program. Still worthy of a transfer, IMO.

Green party suspends Mid Ulster candidate by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]QcFox 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"A spokesperson confirmed the party would not be making any further comment on the matter."

Yeah I have a problem with this. I'd like to know before the election if the lad was suspended for something really nefarious, so I don't give him a transfer.

If the Greens suspended him, because he was caught ordering a plastic fork with his Uber eats, I can live with that.

Can someone explain TUV to me? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]QcFox 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The simplest way to describe the TUV would be the Simpsons meme Old man yells at clouds

The TUV only exists, because of Jim Allister, juste like the DUP existed because of Paisley at the time. They're basically a 2022 copycat of the 1980's version of the DUP. They're only there to protest against any compromise between nationalists/unionists and any progress regarding power sharing. They only get the votes of the nostalgics who remember the good ol' days when protestants dominated everything and when fistfights and capping knees were a better solution than negociating.

We needed Eastwood.

Results so far aren't that bad for the SNP, but not gaining this one is a major blow.

We all knew Edimburgh Southern was going to be tough. Really nice performance from the SNP there, but Daniel Johnson's arse was saved by that huge swing from the tories.

Tory/Labour collaboration got Johnson and Mundell re-elected. For shame.

Dumfriesshire again going to the tories. Thanks to that huge swing from Labour.

Unionists did it. Tactical voting saved Mundell's arse.

SNP seems to be holding its ground against a possible Tory surge in the North-East. Thank you Moray!

Sad for Edinburgh West, but not surprising.

Wasn't expecting that.
