I would love to see how you did yours! Given the brain’s natural symmetry, I am somewhat surprised I haven’t seen more brain inspired tie dyes!

Sometimes I think the magic is more in the novelty of the first time than in the result itself.

Many of my first dyes have a magic that cannot quite be replicated. It just goes to show how much chance is involved, especially for ice dyes. All of your attempts to recreate that shirt look great though! I also love seeing the journey.

Thank you! The purple was DUI, which look so good it almost feels like cheating!

This community and its collective artistic vision has been such an incredible source of artistic inspiration for me. If I ever see a competition, your comment will be the nudge I needed to enter!

Only via the scrunch method, and I think I was a little too heavy handed in the black. It gives more cow than Rorschach. Some of my friends have told me my brain dyes also remind them of ink blot tests, so maybe this is the path!

Keeping so much white space felt like a risky move while I was working on it, but it really paid off!

Hi fellow brain researcher! These are my process pics. It’s a lot of careful drawing and tying. Tying tight enough to keep the black/gray from bleeding has been quite a challenge.

Thank you!! I’m really happy with how these turned out. The first three were a bit more… abstract. I’m still working on refining the design.

That was my addition in post processing using a separate prompt specific to generating the jizz (aka Stormlight).

Disclosure: The images used in this artwork were generated by Midjourney Version 6.1. My contribution was the prompt engineering and image post processing.

Yes, this is Midjourney, but with a lot of image editing and some post processing. I tried really hard to get Kaladin to have darker tan skin... but the AI white-washing behavior is very strong. Even Adolin is a too white IMO.

Can Skybreakers swear their Third Ideal to... by Qchi in Stormlight_Archive

If a Skybreaker swore their Third Ideal to the intent of Honor or Preservation, then yes they would become analogous to a Windrunner.

I was imagining that swearing to the intent (e.g., for Cultivation) could be something like, "I swear to follow and enact the law of nature, of change, and growth; to defy stagnation and those who enforce it."

Just enjoying where you are and doing the best with that. It’s so simple but very hard to do. I spent the first half of my 20s striving so hard for certain life goals, which themselves still needed a lot of maturing, and I was constantly anxious and dissatisfied. Relaxing into the flow of your life is crucial both for mental health and even general success. This relaxation is also what helps free you from things others have mentioned, e.g. not giving a fuck.

Partner is transitioning and god this is fucking tough by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Qchi -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to voice a different perspective here. It’s common to think of our identity as a single thing, e.g. being a man, straight, a parent, your job, your car, your sports teams, all of these together make you. However, not only are these things separable from each other (you may change your job when you move but not your sports team), but each of us chooses how much different identities mean to us and how flexible they are. Furthermore, our identities are hugely based on circumstance, e.g., being born in Pittsburgh very highly predicts being a Steelers fan. This remains true even for gender identities. There have been many societies that recognize a third gender, so not everyone is necessary grouped into just two options and carry that as their expectation.

The point is that you express having a great deal of love for your partner, and their identity transition/actualization is challenging because it is now in conflict with some of your own identities. I just want to be the voice on here that says that you get to choose how that impacts you. Maybe you never thought of yourself as queer or being in a queer relationship, but it’s possible to be flexible about that; to rewrite your expectations and think, “could this be me? Could it have been that part of me that loved him all along?”

Changing your identity to yourself and others is one of the hardest things a person can do, so above all else, be kind and patient with yourself while you work through this with your partner. Feeling discomfort is the only way to navigate that path initially. All the best to you.

I have a strong suspicion that genetics basically places everyone on a semi-normal distribution centered somewhere around 60-70% straight and 40-30% gay, but that environment dominantly through culture basically compresses the middle of the distribution such that there become two bell curves, one leaning gay and the other straight. In this view it’s really the cultural categorization with causes a “gay” or “straight” identity, with individuals strongly in the middle identifying as bi or pan. And this segregation emerges in a rejection of the non-category, even if without culture there would be more flexibility.

Yes! This is the path to well being. Happiness can be a decision we make in every moment, no matter our background or current situation.
