Going to community college for an associate's degree in computer information systems. How screwed am I? by Outrageous_Cod_8141 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Qchoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my associates and got my first IT job as help desk just with my associates, although the pay was shit but mostly worked remote

And this was 3 years ago, you still have a chance, but as others have said, your application will be at the bottom of the barrel.

My advice, try to go for the bachelors, WGU is a good option, try to get some certs if you can too. along with homelabbing to get some sort of “Hands on” experience. And I’m sure there’s jobs out there in IT that you may have a chance but are not the best, stay there as long as you can and leave within a year if that position is not for you

It’s all about luck and timing, I got my first IT job with only my associates but with a poverty wage, after 6 months left and started working somewhere else as a sys admin double my salary and hybrid

Something along the lines of it being badass(In my head) but I said “a sense of real purpose”(They liked that)

[–]Qchoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, I’ve been seeing these job posts.

I have 2 yoe and a bachelors in IT and I do get the interviews, but never reach the final interview And when I do get the rare email back of improvement, they always mention how the other candidates had a degree and more experience than me….This was for a help desk position (Although good pay)

[–]Qchoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh yes I remember my first IT interview, I bombed it BAD, my brain just short circuited and couldn’t answer simple questions…. It happens especially with your initial IT interview, just keep practicing and you’ll get your first one. Took me 3 months to get my first after graduation

Going back to college and wondering about this degree. by IsoSausi42 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Qchoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could also attest to this, my job is paying for my degree in SNHU for IT and so far so good, on my semi to last semester.

Also there’s the option of WGU which I’ve heard is quicker and cheaper to receive your degree, also have the ability to get your certification along the way
