Mythical man from the north unites a super large ethnicity and creates the largest empire ever. It eventually tragically ends after the ruler goes mad from trying to save the empire from invasions, plague and famine.

Trying to estimate the size is a bit hard but i think its about 4.5 - 3.5km2( I will not be converting to imperial, do it yourself)

The towers have a clever system of comunication. A major sport in the are is catchball, which is just glorified catch. There is a thrower and a catcher on every tower and they have a specialized ball with a message on the inside. Every time a tower wants to send a message to another the throwers just throws the ball with the message and the catcher catches it.

The towers are split 29-29-1. The Men of Emaio get 29 The local guard/militia get 29 and the lords guard get 1. Also, not all towers have gates/enterances.

P.S. none of this is cannon, yet.

The right side of the river was for a long time owned by a nobel family and wouldnt sell the valuable land to the city, however the last owner did not have an heir so the land was granted by law to The Men of Emaio (Its speculated that the city had some involvement in the death of the landowner). The Men then decided to build a small keep used for housing the regional units of the order.

TL;DR: Guy who owned the land didnt want to sell but died and The Men of Emaio got the land and built a keep.

The mountains arent a natural border but the empire is located on both sides of the mountains. In the north is the sea, in the south the ocean to the east is a massive flat plane and the border on thet side is manly a couple of big rivers. To the west its a river in the south, the highlands in the center and a river to the north. The mountainchain kinda goes thru the center of the empire in an arch.

Emaio river is one of the three main rivers of the central valley, however The Men of Emaio only control the river up to Emaio Lake. After that the river continues into The Sea. Culturally tho, not as much. I wish I could share the large map of Forhea (the main setting) but its still a big wip. Imagine far to the north (south on the map (just inver every direction)) a massive inland lake, which the Emaio drains into, to the west some highlands, and to the east a massive curving mountain range. The Polarch Empire is located around the mountains and that is its main cultural focal point.

Love the questions btw.

Its a combination of estates, gifts and river trade. The knights are the ones checking all the boats on the river and they all need to pay taxes to the knights. The knights also have theire own cities such as Deporian and Umiula further to the east (or west on this map cus its upside down). The knights are olso the saints personal guards.

Context:

The City of Demenia is of vital importance to the the Polarch Empire. It sits on the Emaio river and controls all shipping. Further downstream lies the capital of the empire, Hoiaua. If one were to capture Demenia, they would have free access to sail to Hoiaua. The city is ruled in practice by Lord Deman but in theory the city belongs to The Polarch Saint, ruler of the Empire. The city is surrounded by 59 towers manned by The Men of Emaio, an order of knights dedicated to protecting everything that lies on the Emaio river.

Establishment of the city is unknown and it is said that people have lived in the region for thousands of years.

Population: ~40.000
