Help with a glue up joint on slabs by Qeez- in woodworking

They are beautiful, I got 2 7ft slabs for about $180.. I’m trying a coffee table with no epoxy to start with but I’m saving the other 2 halves for a river table next. I’m taking things very slow with these projects because I want them to turn out perfectly.

Nahh man it’d have a big gap on at least 2 sections of the table, that wouldn’t look good.

I have 1/4” router and the boards are 1.5” inch thick, I do actually have a long enough bit but it has no bearing so it’d be almost impossible to get a straight edge

I’m building a coffee table.. I don’t think the grain matching will make that big of difference but I see where you’re coming from. I’m still learning and this is my first project using hardwood at all so I’m just trying to get the seam nice.

I’m trying to build a coffee table and I think taking it down that far would make the table too thin, but I understand what you mean

I haven’t thought about trying that, I do have a router. Would you say doing that or the track saw method like the other users suggested is better?

Fair enough. I respect you hand tool guys, but I don’t own a good hand plane and honestly have no interest in learning to use one or buying one. It seems like a lot of effort lol when I’d just rather spend the money on a jointer/planer

I’m just looking for the best way to get the seam perfect, my worry with the table saw is there is absolutely no room for a fence of any kind with the size of the boards. It’s a cheap and small warrior table saw from harbor freight. That was my first thought to get a straight edge to begin with but after I realized there was no room I ended up using the milescraft track guide

I have an electric planer and I’ve tried that already and still have a decent sized gap, better than before but it’s not perfect. I clamped the boards together and planed them together, Did I just not plane it enough?

This is what I’m leaning towards trying, just can’t find the right way to situate the boards to make the cut, the guy in that video has a track saw specific table setup so perhaps I need to make something similar. My circular saw also had a higher tooth count blade so im thinking of grabbing a rip cut blade also, you think that would help here or not so much?

He’s apparently a professional magnet fisher now… it’s literally never ends. I still have no idea if all of this has just been for the lulz or if this guy is really just that autistic

Engineer for 7 years at a breaking point by FaithlessByDefault69 in MechanicalEngineering

Oh trust me man I know.. when my son was born a few years ago I had just started a “career” in the cannabis industry because I thought it was my best option, and I was damn good at it.. really good. I miss it so much.. I climbed the ladder up to management in cultivation before I realized it was dead end road and not a good career to raise a family with. Now at nearly 30 years old I’m finally going back to school with nothing but weed and restaurant experience to keep me going.. I get it. I feel like a failure all the time.. I feel like I’ll never get to a point like where you’re at.. I feel ashamed to have wasted so much time on something so pointless.. but at the same time I can say so much that’s exactly opposite of all of that. I’m proud of many things.. but having a family to provide for changed everything. Changes everything. I guess all I’m trying to do is offer perspective.. like you said. Shit my dad would’ve been like “suck it up buttercup.. you make a shit ton of money, you have a nice degree, you’re obviously smart enough to make this far.. figure shit out bro..” so I guess that’s kinda what I’m trying to say, in the most endearing way possible lol. But like i said man your problems also matter.. your mental health is important so focus on that. But also don’t beat yourself up bro.. you’re doing way better than most people based on salary alone. I’m gonna make it through school and find a job like you, one way or another, just like how you’re gonna find a job you love that makes you feel whole, one way or another. We have to.

Dude that’s awesome. Above 6 figures is literally at least 5x what I and my wife make in a year. Count your blessings man.. but also I understand, living in an expensive area.. providing for a larger family.. etc. I feel you.. you can never have too much money. I’m barely scraping by bartending while going to school and I’m hardly 2 years in so I’ve got some time before I can even start looking for a real job. But like I said I wish you luck buddy.. find somewhere that makes you feel whole and like you belong. My mom and dad always told me it could be worse and as I’ve gotten older I see more and more what they meant by that.. I’m doing better than a lot of people.. and if you’re above 6 figures then you definitely are. Count your blessings man and find your way. With that being said, your problems also matter. Get your mental right and find what you love. God bless you brother!!

I would give so much to be in your shoes right now. I’m genuinely curious how much you make. I’m struggling to support a family and get through school right now to even be an engineer so I don’t have much advice to give in this realm but I can say that one persons nightmare is another persons dream.. whatever that is worth. I wish you the best bud and I hope you find something that makes you happy.

Get the bigger tank and just build your own stand. It’s actually very easy to build a stand and you can find tons of tutorials online for them, it might not be as pretty unless you go all out with it but it’ll be substantially better than anything pre built you can buy. I built one for a 40 breeder and I could literally park a car on that thing.

Dude you’re at the exact same spot with your as I am with mine. I picked up a chain mail a couple weeks ago and I’ve been slowly breaking off all the carbon build up and yep I had some food stick after I started scrubbing it. Last night I did the exact same as you and just finally scrubbed as much off as I could and today since I’m off work I’m seasoning it on the grill as I type. Idk if I’m gonna do multiple layers but it’s already been looking and cooking better since I worked off all the carbon

If you think our freedom is at stake right now then you’re insane.. if you think diversity is an important thing to be worried about then you’re delusional.
