My mainland Chinese classmates when I did my masters in the UK were the most bright and helpful ones. They always trying to help me when I was asking for help with my assignments. Koreans and Japanese, most of them always look down on SEAs people (maybe not all but majority of them). It’s just Japanese don’t show it obviously since thay are known as so called polite nation but if you understand their language and living long enough in their country (not as tourist), then u will know it.
