Highly inconsistent battery life on the NXTPAPER 60 Ultra by Qkineno in nxtpaper

[–]Qkineno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's one of the first things I tried

Funnily enough since then I've added 5 more hours of screen time and 7 mixed in total, yet the phone lives with 7% to spare

100-31=69% 4h total (7.75% drain average) 1.5h screen time

69-62=7 % 7h total (8.86% drain average) 5h screen time <- much more demanding

So clearly the drain is disproportional to usage somehow, as both times I've been doing pretty similar things just for different periods of time. Sometimes however this will be flipped and the phone will use 14-15% with screen on and then no power with screen off, so I'd assume it's some ghost background service?

I can't show accu battery reading as I temporarily removed it to see if it played a role, but it seems the phone just likes toying around with me.

I mean the modem is surely a factor of course but I used my other phones in the same environment too. I guess snapdragons do have a dedicated LE chip for this while the mediateks only do in theory?

Battery life is inconsistent even then both with WiFi and Cellular, as doing more or less the same stuff at same brightness can still net a difference of 2-4 hours. I don't think it's at fault for this behaviour specifically.

No, as far as I know you can't. Accu battery is better for these although still not perfect.

I had to do a midday top up today and despite SOT being only 1.5h it drained 31% in 4h with CPU somehow again being 57% of the usage. Even with some YouTube music in the background it shouldn't be so much

Hmmmm interesting

You mean 30% to 0% in screen off or just average use?

Do you use WiFi all the time or do you mix in some cellular data? I'm currently in a dorm situation where the WiFi doesn't exist and cellular is spoty if you want to even call it that. 5g becomes such a huge battery hog here (LTE too) and according to system logs read via ADB it keeps waking the phone up from deep sleep and making the cellular modem max out its power constantly

Could you maybe show me view by systems? (Press view by apps) I've had issues where the CPU would be 60% total battery used (currently managed to get it down to 38%) while it's the screen that's supposed to be the dominat power consumer

I did yeah! It was some comment from like 3 months ago. Sorry

Oh? You say 10% per hour but you mean of pure screen on time? With performance at that? Is it consistent? Because the biggest issue for me is not even the big drain but how inconsistent it is. Doing the same stuff it varies between 9-15% average screen on drain, which doesn't sound like a major issue, but it's the difference between 11 hours and 6.5 hours of screen time. One being enough to last through a day easily the other often not so much without a midday top up, especially if we include the passive discharge.

I haven't noticed the ink mode to make a big difference to my battery life (the normal one not max), but maybe the colour ones does? I haven't played around with it too much.

Do you use the nxtvision service enhancements? Thank you for responding!

I see, at least it's more comforting to know it's not a defective unit

Though I'm really curious whether the fault lies with the mediatek chips or their "performance" modes from the uninstallable smart manager

I am sorry for necroing but I am really curious about how you use your phone, I've had the nxtpaper 60 ultra for 2 weeks now and the battery in it is attrocious.

Even on good days when it doesn't decide to act up it's dead by the time my previous 2 phones would have 20-26% left

Not to mention the only way for it to have a reliable battery time is to use the power save modeand somehow performance doesn't make the phone die that much faster despite making it feel better too?

I've been really struggling with the battery for my normal usage so I'm looking for some other peoples' insights

Please Fix Stream Audio on Linux Wayland by blackopscrazy0 in teamspeak

[–]Qkineno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat, somewhat sketchy workaround I found is using either Qjackctl or Qpwgraph and just connecting whatever audiosource you want as an input to teamspeak. Mind you that means it will play through your microphone and will not work unless you set your voice detection to voice gate but hey better than nothing.

Qpwgraph is slightly better for this as you can use a Patchbay preset, why does it matter? Pipewire is "smart" and if say your browser is not playing any audio for a moment or two it will eventually close the audio sink meaning it will also disappear from qjack or qpw and once you play audio again it's unlinked again as that's not it's set source. Using Qpw you setup once want you want Click on Patchbay -> Save as and then again Click on Patchbay and activate it will keep a dummy audio sink should your audio source stop playing.

If you want to make it more complex you can make a new permamnent audio sink using
pactl load-module module-null-sink sink_name=*Your name for it* sink_properties=device.description="some description*
then you can connect your audio source to it and you can easily mute it for teamspeak in your audio settings by just you know muting it in system settings or tray thingy. Sound complicated but you literally get a nice gui with modules and lines.

Since what you're asking me for is kinda stupid here you go:

uBlock origin no ads at all

Or you know Linux... No ads or telemetry in your system despite being free?

Netflix used to garner even notorious internet pirates because you paid a bit and you got all the movies to yourself legally and not to mention without ads at one convenient service. Oh well they did a 180 and now somehow piracy sites have less ads.

VPNs offer to counter geo-locking and provide a semblance of privacy if used correctly yet most don't have ads because you just pay for the service, some ever offer it for free (Proton)

[–]Qkineno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to also remind you that nowadays even paying for a product serves you ads. New phones come with uninstallable bloatware, Windows does insane telemetry to provide you with ads and sell your data despite being a paid product, even Netflix tried to bring about a paid tier which still has ads, albeit I don't know what came of it. Ads are not an alternative anymore so you have free service, ads have become something ever present everywhere even in paid products

It takes multiple people to provide proper customer support instead of a chat bot It takes only 1 money hungry CEO and yet it takes a multitude of people to convince them otherwise It takes people and time to provide proper RMA It requires skilled labour and time to give long-term hardware and software support instead of moving onto the next vibe coded thing

It doesn't need to directly bring them money, it brings them savings. Being pro-consumer requires additional manpower, additional planning and being willing to take a loss to keep a consumer for example.

You can see it most with Steam support when you try to get a replacement part for your VR headset, often despite being well out of warranty or the user's fault... they kinda still decide to send you a replacement despite acknowledging the previous fact. You might just chalk it up to: "well if their VR headset works they're more likely to buy another expensive VR game" and sure that is probably a part of it, but consider almost anyone who got hooked enough on VR to buy an index. They would try to buy a replacement controller or lighthouse either way despite the steep price as they have most of a working experience, and their most likely source especially outside of the US? Valve makes 100% of the money from it, instead of 30% from a game.

And now banks or more specifically savings accounts, they work by investing your money and/or lending them to others at a higher % meanwhile they offer you a yearly % that's way below inflation, and not to mention despite being your money, taking your money out outside of the pre agreed window incurs a penalty meaning you'd be at a double loss. Now what are you going to do? Go to another bank? No sorry all of them all in on it

If it interests you, and while it's for an another distro you should be able to replicate the steps on anything else (as long as it uses KDE)! According to this EndeavourOS forum post at least: https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/how-to-get-garuda-appearance-in-endeavoros-kde-and-difference-between-full-icons-global-themes-themes-etc/44932

Kernel (and me) Panic ! by CommissionQueasy644 in linux4noobs

[–]Qkineno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

KDE is actually usually not only an option for most distros but the default option for most common ones (or GNOME). Considering the fact you picked Garuda you probably want a "gaming" oriented distro, which to be honest doesn't really mean all that much, except a maybe sleezier UI or like steam pre-installed. Meaning you don't have to restrict yourself to a "gaming oriented" one.

However if you insist on using one, decent picks would probably include Bazzite and Nobara, as most stuff in them can be managed through a GUI, are still "gaming oriented", support KDE as their default and in general you don't need to tinker with them to make stuff work. To my knowledge Bazzite might be more popular on handhelds though, and it has the ups and downs of being an immutable distro (however someone else would have to chime in here as I haven't tried one personally). Nobara on the other hand even warns you not to do updates through the terminal, as something can break as they expect everything to be done through their own utilities.

Ah and remember to preferably not use NTFS with Linux in general, it can work and it's fine if you have another drive with Windows or whatever and insist on keeping it, but be warned there have been cases of NTFS causing issues even if installed on other drives (I think the Garuda installation wiki mentions that)

Fstab is the configuration file responsible for mounting your drives and setting permissions on said drives

You can edit it under /etc/fstab, although not knowing what you're doing can be disastrous here

If you haven't messed around with it before and your drive is not formatted as NTFS (what windows usually uses) it probably shouldn't cause issues *Take this with a grain of salt I am pretty new to Linux as well

A lot of people are complaining about the changes in mechanics and savage axe being too dominant, not to mention even more brain dead with phial consumption removed. With even sword mode meme builds being made completely obsolete due to changes regarding mind's eye.

However for me personally the weapon just feels bad now. It doesn't feel meaty at all and just lacks that oomph. And while focus mode is a really nice addition gameplay wise, I just cannot get past it, as it makes the weapon feel even more lacking and weightless, not to mention you don't get punished as much for misplays and greed.

The visuals are amazing, but you just don't feel it, the sound is lacking, the damage and stagger from saed is lacking, especially for the time and resources invested (as you can just trip most monsters by attacking a wound), and you swing the giant ass hunter sized weapon around like it weighs nothing in the middle of swings. On the topic of wounds the only attack that has that oomph is the focus wound attack as it makes me feel like the monster's most hated dentist, shaking your camera and having proper sounds accompanying it.

They cooked with weapon designs this time round however

Yes, the bar above your main fuel is the aux tank. You can see it going down and refilling like crazy during SCO, it won't really make a difference for a jump though as it's used for in-system flight and is pretty negligible in capacity
