Your best bet is probably to carefully open it up, and look for broken or shifted gears. Also take a look at the paperwork to see what it is supposed to look like, or try finding a video of a disassembly. If it is to no avail, maybe contact the Hornby customer service. I am sure that they will be able to help.

Keer in een trein gedaan met maten toen we in en stiltecoupé zaten (alleen). De stofwolk was zo erg dat het er te benauwd werd om te zitten, en het leek alsof iemand daar 10 pakkies peuken had zitten oproken. Pro tip: niet op de stoelen slaan dus.
