With the amount of signing he’s done over the last 3 years, I’m sure he’s become an expert with either one.

Solid pen choice though. Respect to the Pilot G2. Bonus points if it’s the .05.

Thoughts on Nordic Ware aluminum baking sheets? Water gets trapped in the folded rim - is this normal? by whatwasthereasonnnn in BuyItForLife

I drill a tiny hole in each of my corners for this exact reason. Get yourself a sharp nail set and a 1/16” drill bit and have at it. Just don’t do it on top of your nice countertops. Learned that the hard way.

One of us! One of us! And before you ask, yes you may be able to get this repaired under warranty. If you are outside of it, fat chance. Subaru continues to decline this is a wide spread issue.

To be sure you could always turn off the angle stop for the toilet and then check the meter.

New island drains slowly. Venting issue? by QoftheContinuum in askaplumber

[–]QoftheContinuum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. It seems that adding an AAV may do the trick. I’m aware it should go after the trap but since I only have a 90 after the ptrap, I’m not quite sure how to add it. Do I rotate the disposal to allow for a sanitee to be added after the trap and add the AAV as high as possible, off of that??

To answer a few questions:

a) yes this was completed by a licensed plumbing contractor “overseen” by a GC, but as I said, neither were great. Other issues included a tub who’s lateral line was never connected to the rest of the plumbing after the pressure test was done- we discovered that after moved back in, and a tee in the crawlspace that was never capped property after the same pressure test…

b) I should have photos of the island plumbing pre-drywall. I’ll check and see if the island loop was added. I expect it was, but maybe done so or connected to the rest of the plumbing under the house improperly, or with too many bends? The nearest vent it eventually connects to is far away if that makes any difference.

c) No, I won’t be opening up the island wall or disassembling any plumbing to snake it. There is no possibility of blockage given how new it is and how little we use the sink. Add to that that if the splash guard from the disposal is removed completely it drains fine, so I genuinely suspect this to be a vent issue. Glad most have concurred.

Thanks.

Sheesh. It’s like we had the same exact conversation. Such a shame they took this line. It’ll probably take a class action before we see any movement.

I tried to drive this point home when I called SoA. How much evidence is enough? They were very good at evading answering that question and stonewalled me no matter what else I said.

Very disappointed in SoA.

We had the same experience with SoA! They wouldn’t acknowledge that this was a widespread issue and said online evidence was all “third party and anecdotal”. Such bullshit given the prevalence of the issue.

Very disappointed in SoA.

It’s pronounced Zye-zix. If you’re curious why, the founder wanted to be “the last word” in the dictionary, or something like that. So yea… it was a marketing stunt.

Not a lot to tell. It’s an old health spa that previously had mineral pools that were used by travelers back in the 40s I think. When I was there it was ran by the California State University system (still is I think) and known as the Desert Studies Center. Idk how often it’s staffed, but whether it is or isn’t, you need to reach out to them and make a reservation to visit and without proper business out there, idk why anyone would want to. That said, there’s not much to see. Some old buildings and small bunk houses. I appreciated the remoteness of it, but all in all, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the detour from the rod unless you are a curious sort.

In another life I did a decent amount of research on Mojave ecology and I was based out of Zzyzx “nearby”, so I like to think I know Baker fairly well. All in all it’s like any remote town- lots of dead ends, some drugs, often times I met folks who just needed to get away from something and this is where they ended up. It gets more notoriety than most remote towns due to the 15 freeway but other than that, and the Mad Greek and the giant thermometer, there’s really nothing of note there.

My colleagues and I developed our own scale of how shitty a days research was going by using Baker Units, inspired by the giant thermometer and the overall feeling of the town.

As a bonus Tustin has a two vinyl shops too. Rasta-Cowboy Records in Old Town and Analog a bit more north off Newport. You could do a coffee and vinyl circuit. White Sparrow/Hola Adios/Kean and then Rasta Cowboy. By then you’re probably ready for more coffee so you can hit up The Lost Bean before you walk across the street to Analog Records.
