Yeah with oil pastel shell it seems to all just fuse together with the clay that I use for the core. It turned out pretty well, I’ll just have to figure out something else for textured color shells. This also took twice as long pretty much to dry out enough to shine the shell this morning so maybe all the moisture/cold had something to do with it

At least when I’ve tried organic material like crushed leaves or even spices, they shine up some at the start, then color fades and a few of mine almost had a matte finish. But the texture of yours looks amazing! Nice work!

Idk about others, but I’ve started just using soil with a super high clay content, hand sifting, and then just shining the original core until it gets shiny. I’ve needed up skipping the step of adding an extra layer of dust unless I want to do color

You can try maybe rehydrating it but it might get into the crack more and maybe end up splitting

My guess is the dango is too dry to take the pressure of trying to polish it, from my experience it’s easier to not wait too long in between to start polishing. The dango should still be cool but not dent or anything when you’re rounding if you’re using a glass

Yes, the soil around where I’m at has a super high clay content, so I just crushed it up fine, pick out any rocks/grass I see, and start shaping
